Boy oh boy, I had troubles with this as well. The head/rubberband fix had
helped with the head. For the back leg, I couldn't get it to snap open no
matter how hard the front legs struck. When I reduced rubberbands it would
open but not have enough force to stand up correctly.

I'll try to describe what I did to fix it:

I still have four rubberbands on it.
When you fold up the back leg there is a black piece that is a technic "bolt"
attched to another at a 90 degree angle that fits under a brown "tube" and
locks into place. Pressing the front legs up should move the brown tube
forward enough to let that black piece pop free, however, the original model
had two grey technic pins with studs on them stuck into the brown technic
beams so that the brown tube could only come forward so much. I just took
these pins out and voila (or voici if you're holding it in your hands) it
unrolls correctly about 90% of the time now.

I hope I described this well enough. Terminology fails me.

Chris

Correct me if I am wrong. Alot of the areas where people are having problems with the legs unfolding, are held together with the L shaped flat technic pieces. I found the flash on mine to be sticking out too far to allow a pair of these to sit flush (...) (25 years ago, 26-Jan-00, to lugnet.starwars)

I'm having trouble with the rear leg mechanism too. I reduced the number of elastics to 3. This seemd to make the latching and unlatching operations easier when tripping it manually (i.e. by hand, not rolling it). With 4 bands I could trip the rear (...)
