Ok I am in a bit of a posting frenzy.  I am sitting in a hotel room and quite
board tonight.  Last night I watched The Phantom Menice in my hotel room and
it got me to thinking about some of my favorite things about the movies.  I
thought I would share some of my thoughts with all of you.

It's still playing in some cinemas over here, and you've got it on in-house
movies already. Sheesh!! Talk about fast! When is it going to be released for
general video/dvd/laser disc consumption??

Most of you know that I am really a "Classic SW" fan but when I was thinking I
found there were parts of all the movies that I like a lot so here are some
catagories and how I rank each movie.

Favorite Star Wars Movie

1.  Star Wars (A New Hope)
2.  Empire Strikes Back
3.  The Phantom Menice
4.  Return of the Jedi

1.  ANH
2.  ESB
3.  ROTJ
4.  TPM

I rank RTOJ above TPM only because I'm a purist. And I don't care what anyone
else thinks, I thought the Ewoks were cute (OK, the baby Ewoks were a bit too
cute, but still cute).

Best Battle Scene

1.  Hoth (Empire)
2.  Death Star (Star Wars)
3.  Death Star (Jedi)
4.  Gungans vs. Droids (Phantom)
5.  Endor (Jedi)

1.  Death Star (ROTJ)
2.  Death Star (ANH)
3.  Hoth (ESB)
4.  Endor (ROTJ)
5.  Naboo (TPM)
6.  Gungan v Droids (TPM)

I felt the Gungan v Droids scene, whilst FX impressive, was a bit weak in
exploiting the range of hardware. The also didn't spend enough time on the
Naboo space battle, and far too much time on Anakin wizzing about in the Naboo
Fighter.

Best Light Saber Duel

1.  Maul/Obi-Wan/Qui-Gon (Phantom)
2.  Vader/Luke (Empire)
3.  Vader/Luke (Jedi)
4.  Maul/Qui-Gon (Phantom)
5.  Vader/Obi-Wan (Star Wars)

No arguments here

Best Fighter (Note: The Falcon is not a Fighter)

1.  X-Wing (Star Wars)
2.  Air Speeder (Empire)
3.  Tie Figher (Star Wars)
4.  B-Wing (Jedi)
5.  Tie Interceptor (Jedi?)
6.  Y-Wing (Star Wars)
7.  Vader's Tie (Star Wars)
8.  A-Wing (Jedi)
9.  Naboo Fighter (Phantom)

1.  X-Wing
2.  A-Wing
3.  TIE Fighter
4.  Y-Wing
5.  Air Speeder
6.  B-Wing
7.  TIE Interceptor
8.  TIE Bomber (ESB, when the Falcon is hiding in the "asteroid")
9.  Vader's TIE
10. Naboo Fighter

I moved the A-Wing to number 2, as it only needed one of them to bring down
the Executor in ROTJ (OK, he had to kamakazi through the bridge to do it)

Best Non-Capital Ship (Freighter/Shuttle/Cuiser)

1.  Falcon (Star Wars) Not much competition here
...
3.  Lambda Class Shuttle (Jedi)
4.  Tantavie IV (Star Wars)
5.  Queen Amidala's Ship (Phantom)
6.  Sith Infiltraitor (Phantom)
7.  Rebel Transport (Empire)

Apart from a clear number 1 with the Falcon, I don't really have an opinion
here.

Best Capital Ship

1.  Super Star Destoyer (Executor) (Empire? maybe Jedi)
2.  Star Destroyer (Star Wars)
3.  Trade Federation Droid Control Ship (Phantom)
4.  Medical Frigate (Empire)
5.  Mon Cal Destroyer (Jedi) Don't know the exact name for this one

1.  Star Destroyer
2.  Death Star (I guess it is a capital ship)
3.  Mon Cal Cruiser (I'm using the X-Wing game classification)
4.  Super Star Destroyer
5.  Frigate
6.  Trade Federation Droid Control Ship

Best Main Character

1.  Han Solo
2.  Luke Skywalker
3.  Darth Vader
4.  Princess Leia
5.  Obi-Wan
6.  Queen Amidala
8.  Qui-Gon

Yep, I guess that's pretty good. What about Yoda? I'd put him between Leia and
Obi-Wan

Best Secondary or Minor Character

1.  Lando
2.  Chewbacca (No lines = not a main character in my book)
3.  Darth Maul
4.  Jaba the Hutt
5.  Boba Fett (OK he looks real cool and all but not much of a Character)
6.  Emporer/Palpatine
7.  Grand Moff Tarkin -sp?

1.  Wedge (c'mon...he's the only pilot apart from Luke - and you could argue
he's not a true pilot as he had no formal academy training and doesn't fight
in the Endor battle)
2.  Chewie
3.  Jabba
4.  Boba Fett (I give him marks for potential, plus he was the one that led
the Empire to Bespin - pretty cool hiding in the garbage dump, thats gotta
earn him points)
5.  Grand Moff Tarkin (Peter Cushing makes a great baddie)
6.  The Emperor (he's bad, but you expect that)
7.  Darth Maul (OK, he fights well, but lets have some character development
before he gets sliced, eh?)
8.  Lando (although pretty convincing as Han's partner-in-crime in the past,
he just doesn't do it for me)

Best LEGO Model

1.  X-Wing
2.  Snow Speeder
3.  Y-Wing
4.  Vader's Tie
5.  Naboo Fighter

1.  X-Wing
2.  Vader's TIE
3.  Snow Speeder
4.  Gungan Sub (I like it for the parts)
5.  Y-Wing
6.  Naboo Fighter
7.  Sith Infiltrator
8.  Land Speeder

Ok thats enough for now.  I know there will be some differances of oppinions
here and I invite you to share them.  I know I am going to here it about my
Boba Fett ranking.  I think he looks really cool too but there is much more to
being a good character than looking cool.  Plus remember this is strictly from
the movies.

OK, here's a new one.

Best Droid

1.  R2D2 (everyones favorite)
2.  Destroyer Droid (they rock! - and roll - excuse the pun, haha)
3.  GONK (any droid that has a dedicated fan base like his has gotta be good)
4.  Probe Droid
5.  IG88 (a droid with an attitude!)
6.  C3P0 (gets worse as the movies progress. Really gives me the willies in
ROTJ - he just whines all the time, and completely unnecessary in TPM. A worse
addition than Jar Jar Binks IMO)
7.  Battle Droids (hopeless shots, but cool nonetheless)
8.  The boss droid in Jabba's palace (another droid with an attitude)
9.  Pit Droids (Lucas was going for another cute factor here)
