So technically it was illegal for whoever it was that put DoTF up on the web
to do
that??

No, that's not illegal, I believe, as long as you give him all
copies of the song so you can't listen to it at the same time,
and,when he gives it back,vice versa, you can do that.
It's just that only one person, since only one person payed to listen
to it, can be able to listen to it at one time. Libraries don't make
copies and let you borrow the copies, they give you the original
payed book.
