Actually, Dave Thomas Jr. had that idea too:
http://soli.inav.net/~thomas/mglm/prog_04.htm
(His ankle brace is stolen on my new design and also on Shaun's foot design
too as I recall). His looks a little rough-- perhaps with tiles it'd look a
bit better, but a very interesting idea... Definitely worth a shot now that
the SW hinges are available in such vast quantity.

Actually, yes. The legs according to the blueprints I've seen should be 1 or
two studs thick (Depending on where in the leg you're talking about). I
ended up making them 2 studs thick for two reasons:
1. sturdiness (it's a LOT more stable)
2. detail (you can make the inside and outside of the leg different)
Also, I think the knee coverings would need to be re-worked... But you're
right, they *should* be thinner. Another reason (that I haven't followed
through with) is that a 2-wide posable knee joint may be possible with a
pneumatic piston or a geared mechanism (although I haven't found such a
mechanism yet)

Well... I guess so... really I've just redesigned one leg fully, and four
feet with the new foot design. I haven't gotten around to re-designing the
body, the undercarriage or the head yet... I keep hoping I will any day now,
but I haven't had the time... possibly with upcoming vacation time.... And
now that those new 1/4 8x8 curved pieces are available (and I'm getting 6 of
the inverse 1x5x4 arches in grey), Maybe there'll be some good progress :)

| (...) Interesting - the foot looks quite good, the leg is nowhere near long enough for a foot that size. All a bit too big for mine at the moment. Jason Railton (24 years ago, 7-Dec-00, to lugnet.starwars)
