Hi all,

I know I sort of disappeared there for a while. I was out of town for a
week. I guess I should have left a note or something ;^)

Anyhoo, on the 23rd I went to Wayne Hussey's house to help him work on his
latest mega-spaceship.

Allow me to illustrate:

Thanks bunches for the pictures and the post  Mark!
Wayne, this red rocketship is stunning.  Does she have a name yet?  Any
other info on her would be greatly appreciated...  such as... width of base,
diameter of widest section of main body,  approximate weight (are you going
to be able to move it upstairs for display after completion?-it is art!,
range of brick sizes used in external shell, # of different type of elements
used so far, is she based on a specific 50's movie rocketship? . . .

Label me "Surprised" :-]

I have tentatively named it "V-6" as in V-2 from the 40's, but bigger.

The diameter of the hull at the widest is 40 studs. All of the hull is 2
studs thick. So far, excluding the deck design, there are only regular
bricks used, none bigger than 2x4 or 1x8 in the entire model. My
calculations suggest that there are about 8,500 pieces so far. Weight -
between 15 and 20 pounds.

Just for reference, I'm 6'3"

While I was there, Wayne and I started to work on one of the crew decks of
this 50s Style rocketship. There are a few pics of the bunks, storage
lockers, showers, and toilets. One of the inter-deck hatches can also be
seen in the picture.

*Second level of the 50's*  Does 2nd level refer to deck # or does it refer
to revisiting this time period?

The label was in reference to going on to the next level of design and
construction. The section shown is one of three planned crew decks. The
other crew decks will have more bunks and a galley.

I just went back through all the space posts to 12-21-00. Wayne, you posted
the pictures 12-22-00?  Didn't see any reference to them here.  Please make
note of it at Lugnet when more are posted.  I'd hate to miss them...

Oops. I mis-typed the date. They were actually posted on 12-23-00. These
were the first pictures I ever posted on Brickshelf and was less than paying
attention to details like that. I will post here when I update again.

# of decks ? Curious about how one is to view  the insides . . . hinges?
pivots of some sort? swivel? some smooth plates between decks to make
lifting decks/sections apart easier?

My plan calls for 20 decks with two of them being double height cargo decks.
Each deck is 8 bricks high (which helps tell the number of layers of brick
used so far). I'll use several methods of peeking inside. Anywhere from
hinge to total removal of the hull pieces. I'm not using many plates or
tiles for the decks. I've decided to build 'sideways', more info to follow.
The yellow decking shown is constructed of 1x bricks laid on their sides. It
is only a 'thumbnail' sketch at this time. Sort of to get the feel of how to
proceed.

I am working on individual deck plans to make sure I get as much interior
detail as possible. So far, the structure from top to bottom is:

Sensors
Bridge
Avionics
Airlock Deck
Shuttle Deck
Officer's Quarters
Jr. Officer's Quarters
Crew Decks (3)
Common/Staging Area
Cargo Decks (2)
Environmental
Fuel
Engineering Decks (4)
Airlock and Elevator

The names and location within the ship may change, but that's the gist.

Nothing was secured to the deck in the pictures, but they will be secured in
the future.

Great bunks! like the the use of the 1x2 grills.
Would this ship have it's own gravity field?   I can't remember any 50's
space movies  that didn't assume this.  That's why all the deck furnishings
only utilize the floor? 50's movies ignored into zero gravity?

Bunks by Mark S. I must say up front, the guy is a genius at small, detailed
design - usually on the first try! I tend toward massivness adding detail by
rebuilding. I hope some of his approach and technique rubs off :-)

The intent is for a constant thrust (gravity) system - ala 1950's movie
technology. They ignored it and so will I ;-)

This thing is gonna be way cool. :^)

yup!

Thanks for the vote of confidence, Sheree. Thanks for the post Mark.
