Mobile Party Palace (Space Wheels Contest Entry) —Tim McSweeney
What is the point of having technology indistinguishable from magic if you can't use it to have a little fun? Introducing the Mobile Party Palace (MPP): (clicky) (URL) The MPP is a luxury palace/city/arcology/biodome built atop a single giant wheel. (...)      (...) This contest is over. That is hilarious and very well built. Awesome. -Grand Admiral .space Curator (URL) (20 years ago, 16-Nov-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: Mobile Party Palace (Space Wheels Contest Entry) —Tim McSweeney
(...) Thanks for the compliment, but I really hope that's not the case. Rather that this is just raising the bar and that there are going to be a pile of people beavering away up to the deadline who are all going to beat this into the ground.         Re: Mobile Party Palace (Space Wheels Contest Entry) —Ryan Wood
I've seen this on Brickshelf the past few days, but when it never got posted I thought "whew, I can still get a decent entry in sometime." Well scratch that. This contest is over. An insanely excellent moc you've shared with us, Tim. This is the (...) (20 years ago, 16-Nov-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: Mobile Party Palace (Space Wheels Contest Entry) —Tim McSweeney
(...) Sorry about the delay, getting photos I was happy with took way longer than I planned. I'm just starting out learning how to use a digital camera, after I posted the first lot I discovered a better way to light the model. Then after the second (...)         Re: Mobile Party Palace (Space Wheels Contest Entry) —James Wilson
This is one of the most original MOCs I've seen in a while. I hope you'll post some construction-type pics, 'cause I want to show my son (age 8) this MOC as an example of how everything doesn't have to have a pointy nose and wings to be "space." It (...)          Re: Mobile Party Palace (Space Wheels Contest Entry) —Tim McSweeney
(...) More photos <sob>! I'll try and borrow the camera again this weekend and get a few showing how it is put together. (...) I hadn't really thought about it's "swooshability" It was built with the intention of being a display piece. That being (...) (20 years ago, 17-Nov-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: Mobile Party Palace (Space Wheels Contest Entry) —Tim McSweeney
(...) Your wish is my eventual command: (URL) Sorry about the dismal quality of the photos, I didn't have very long with the camera. Hopefully they are clear enough to give you some idea of how it all clings togeether. Cheers Tim (20 years ago, 22-Nov-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: Mobile Party Palace (Space Wheels Contest Entry) —James Wilson
Thanks, Tim. The pics aren't too bad, if I scoot WAY back from the monitor :-) Seriously, though, I wish more folks would post construction pics, to help us SNOT-impaired builders. Thanks, James (20 years ago, 22-Nov-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: Mobile Party Palace (Space Wheels Contest Entry) —Erik Schroer
When I first saw this on Brickshelf, I thought the 3vil had entered the Spacewheels contest, because it looks like a skull if you aren't paying attention, but upon closer inspection I discovered something completely different. This rolling city is a (...) (20 years ago, 16-Nov-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

(...) To me it looks like a stylized monkey head, but I was thinking along the same lines when I first saw it (aside from "What the @#$@ is that?") James Wilson Dallas, TX (20 years ago, 18-Nov-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: Mobile Party Palace (Space Wheels Contest Entry) —Brian Cooper
When I saw this neat MOC on Brickshelf a few days ago, I felt an irresistible back story compulsion, since it had a sci-fi book cover art quality to it... "Hey, that was a blast wasn't it. That planet blew up real good!" "Eh, it was ok. Nothing like (...) (20 years ago, 17-Nov-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: Mobile Party Palace (Space Wheels Contest Entry) —Tim McSweeney
(...) <snip> Too... Cool... For... Words.... There is a certain air of hubris about the Party Palace. While I was building it I had visions of a follow-up diorama depicting it's death. The Party lying broken backed across a ridge, it's great domes (...) (20 years ago, 18-Nov-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: Mobile Party Palace (Space Wheels Contest Entry) —Brian Cooper
(...) Ah, a titanic clash of the mobile theme parties, I like it. It's probably quite true that past a certain point, technologically, there's nothing to do but party. Sado-hedonistic urges run amok in quasi immortal beings who disdain further (...) (20 years ago, 19-Nov-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: Mobile Party Palace (Space Wheels Contest Entry) —Tim McSweeney
(...) I hadn't considered the possibility of using the Party as an offensive weapon, at least not until you posted your brief synopsis of the downfall of Erf. But now I can't get the idea out of my head. (2 URLs) (click for a larger view) I really (...) (20 years ago, 19-Nov-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: Mobile Party Palace (Space Wheels Contest Entry) —Brian Cooper
(...) I apologize for corrupting your concept. ;-) That's a great work on the picture, a slightly smoking trail of squashed debris going off into the distance.          Re: Mobile Party Palace (Space Wheels Contest Entry) —Steve Lane
(...) Of course it can steer! The mpp houses a large, horizontally mounted, flywheel in it's base. To turn right the flywheel spins left, imparting a turning force in the opposite direction, much like a helicopter, which needs a tailrotor to stop (...)         Re: Mobile Party Palace (Space Wheels Contest Entry) —Keith Goldman
This one gets my vote, what a crazy monstrosity. I agree with whoever said it is reminiscent of sci-fi cover art, and the lunar tracks really sell it. It would take one hell of a spike-strip to stop this party. -Keith (20 years ago, 18-Nov-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: Mobile Party Palace (Space Wheels Contest Entry) —Kyle Vrieze
(...) I love it! Just eyeballing, I would guess the Mobile Party Palace is maybe 27-28 bricks high or so? But it really gives you the illusion of tremendous size--very well done. Also I'm a sucker for the concept of a massive arcology complex (...) (20 years ago, 18-Nov-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Hi Tim, Welcome to .space (1) This is a 'me-too' post. I have to agree with the others. Excellent MOC. I really like it and your sense of humour.
