(...) They could if you want the thumbs for your vertically oriented images to match the thumbs for your horizontally oriented images. Otherwise you'll end up with tall/skinny thumbs and short/fat thumbs. (20 years ago, 22-Aug-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)
