A little classic space trivia —David Eaton
Just reflecting on pieces that have changed throughout the years... What classic space set is no longer functional when made out of all newer (post 1990) pieces? Hints below... (to people that may know more about this than I-- are there any others?) (...) (24 years ago, 21-Sep-00, to lugnet.space)

(...) Not quite! Although that does fit Hint #6 better than I anticipated! The set in question has functionality that is actually made impossible by the newer version of a particular piece! As near as I can tell, the set you suggested is still (...) (24 years ago, 21-Sep-00, to lugnet.space)

(...) Circle gets the square! I actually learned this tidbit from going back and trying to build this set again, only to realize that I COULDN'T using the new pieces! To the best of my knowledge, this is the only set whose functionality is inhibited (...) (24 years ago, 21-Sep-00, to lugnet.space)

What did they do to change the piece? My oldest Space sets were from Blacktron II, so I don't really know what you are talking about. (...) (24 years ago, 23-Sep-00, to lugnet.space)

RE: A little classic space trivia —Bram Lambrecht
(...) Made it wider. It used to be that you could attach a plate to the "light clip" and it would be flush with the edge of the 1x1 portion. Trivia: what other (non-space) set can't you build with the new version? Hint: it's yellow, and I have one. (...) (24 years ago, 23-Sep-00, to lugnet.space)

Re: A little classic space trivia —Frank Filz
(...) There are some other pieces which have changed. Another one which is used in <set: 6846>, which could affect some sets is the 7x8 wedge shaped plate with notches. I do notice that the two types of these that I have have different part numbers. (...) (24 years ago, 23-Sep-00, to lugnet.space)

Re: A little classic space trivia —Timothy Carl Buchheim
(...) Another interesting thing about this set: the trans-blue antennae in my two copies of this set, the trans-blue antennae are both shorter than normal. The trans-red ones were the normal length. Anyone else notice this? (btw, my two copies of (...) (24 years ago, 25-Sep-00, to lugnet.space)

(...) hmm. then maybe this isn't the set where I got my ttrans-blue antennae. and looking at the picture, it looks like maybe these weren't trans-blue. my memory is going. oh no!     Timothy Carl Buchheim wrote in message <39CEF9B7.FC8601C7@c...AM.edu>... (...) I own one 6846. I own no trans-blue antennae. I have never lost any trans-blue antennae[1]. ERGO.... 6846 didn't come with trans-blue antennae ;-) Anyway, this whole (...) (24 years ago, 25-Sep-00, to lugnet.space)

(...) You're lucky.. you only lose small stuff. I seem to lose only big elements. For example, I lost the entire sign from the top of the Pizza to Go set and I just recently misplaced a SW wing..
