I’ve finally gotten around to using those curvy windshields that have been gathering sawdust. I like the way they look, but they sure aren’t the easiest parts to use if you want a canopy that opens up.

Well, you certainly came up with an elegant solution. Any of these new canopy pieces without built in hinge attachments pose problems. Hopefully those promising new Alpha Team canopies will be readily hinged.

I don’t think they necessarily need built-in hinges, but these parts have a number of other issues that make them particularly difficult. They have 8 studs of binding surfaces on the underside, and are shaped in a way that tiling the surface underneath is awkward. But I don’t know- the new AT canopies looked awfully Mega-Bloxy.

I did this ship a couple of weeks ago, and it was my first experience with the frustration of using these things. I’ve done a couple more ships using these parts since then, and I’m still annoyed at the design of this part.

It’s all part of the fun of Lego. :)

Yes!!

Anyway, it’s a fine little craft. Very insectoid, neat playable features - I particularly like how the cargo opening looks like wings, and the colour scheme is excellent. Can’t wait to see the next one now you’ve had a chance to practice with the canopy pieces.

Thanks- the color scheme is not something I’d normally ever think of doing, but I originally used a printed windshield that had blue and yellow. I realized later that the color scheme worked out nicely but the actual canopy printing was out of place. So I swapped in a blank one and never went back.
