Well, you certainly came up with an elegant solution. Any of these new canopy pieces without built in hinge attachments pose problems. Hopefully those promising new Alpha Team canopies will be readily hinged.

   I did this ship a couple of weeks ago, and it was my first experience with the frustration of using these things. I’ve done a couple more ships using these parts since then, and I’m still annoyed at the design of this part.

It’s all part of the fun of Lego. :)

Anyway, it’s a fine little craft. Very insectoid, neat playable features - I particularly like how the cargo opening looks like wings, and the colour scheme is excellent. Can’t wait to see the next one now you’ve had a chance to practice with the canopy pieces.

(...) Man, I gotta disagree with ya on that. I much prefer canopies without hinges. That way I can hinge it however I want. Makes things like backwards and side opening canopies possible. :P (URL) (20 years ago, 11-Feb-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)

(...) I don't think they necessarily need built-in hinges, but these parts have a number of other issues that make them particularly difficult. They have 8 studs of binding surfaces on the underside, and are shaped in a way that tiling the surface (...) (20 years ago, 12-Feb-04, to lugnet.space, FTX)
