Presenting my largest undertaking to date: The Roderik Project

Hi all, After seeing Leonard Hoffman's awesome (URL) Kalashnikov Project>, I was inspired to build a ship much bigger than I ever had tried before. After wrestling with several ideas, including a toxic waste disposal transport, I settled on a (...) (21 years ago, 16-Jul-03, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: Presenting my largest undertaking to date: The Roderik Project

Hey, I think you've got an interesting shape started and looks like you're using some different hull techniques. Very nice. Just be careful not to get the "rainbows" inside and out when building it. Remember, one key to good ship building is (...) (21 years ago, 16-Jul-03, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: Presenting my largest undertaking to date: The Roderik Project

Nate, I'm definitely impressed with it so far... the angled walls and techniques you used for that have definitely given me ideas on how to handle some sections of my ongoing project. (Picture updates soon, I promise!) I like the exterior color (...) (21 years ago, 16-Jul-03, to lugnet.space, FTX)

PCS is a bunch of pansies, was Re: The Roderik Project

(...) Ha! You'll have plenty of white materials when the Kal blows your whole PCS armada to bit at Brickfest! -Jr.Marshal Hoffman (URL) (21 years ago, 16-Jul-03, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: Presenting my largest undertaking to date: The Roderik Project

(...) Why Thank you! This is exactly what I was hoping the Kalashnikov Project would inspire. I echo Adm Giddens' comments about the color scheme. It is really important to have a good color scheme that doesn't detract from a moc. Many great MOCs (...) (21 years ago, 16-Jul-03, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: Presenting my largest undertaking to date: The Roderik Project

(...) Ya know, this got me thinking. When you (the general everyone you) builds a large ship, do you tend to make the interior first and then build the outside to cover it, or do you build the exterior shell and then shoehorn an interior into it? Or (...) (21 years ago, 16-Jul-03, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: Presenting my largest undertaking to date: The Roderik Project

I tend to do a combination of both... on the Genesis, I built the top of the cockpit, then the bottom with the interior details. Now I'm working on the interior of the main ship, and plan on attaching the exterior midway through... kind of a front (...) (21 years ago, 16-Jul-03, to lugnet.space, FTX)

Re: Presenting my largest undertaking to date: The Roderik Project

(...) Thanks...I love SNOT and those new flat click-hinges! (...) Wow, thanks for the advise. I chose a exterior red/gray/black colorscheme because I had tons of those colors. I never thought about the inside colors until now (heck, I've still got (...) (21 years ago, 16-Jul-03, to lugnet.space, FTX)

  Spaceship Building Techniques

(...) I build from the ground up, therefore everything is integrated into each other (the bunks built into the walls, chairs built into the floor, etc.). The major advantage is increased structural integrity, I can easily pick up my ship from (...) (21 years ago, 17-Jul-03, to lugnet.space, FTX)

  Re: Spaceship Building Techniques

(...) What I usually do is divide the ship horizontally into sections that can attach to each other. Then I build the exterior of each level of each section, and then I do the interior.   Re: The Roderik Project part IV

(...) I really like it so far. As it progresses it keeps getting better. I think you made the right choice with the color scheme of the science room. If I could offer one suggestion: the engines look way too small. For a ship that big, engines (...) (21 years ago, 18-Jul-03, to lugnet.space, FTX)
