Best Newcomer Creation (for people who arent the Space elite already)
|
Ive never liked this business of separating people into Space Elite
because it makes the rest of us out to be newbs when really, we all exist on
a spectrum (and some of those Elite can still learn something from the
rest of us). How would you determine whos space elite ? Anything that
earns that award would probably be made by someone who is space elite, but
just not well known. Maybe you could have a best sub-12 year old creation
(or 10 or 8? Im not sure what todays 8 - 12 year olds are capable of).
|
Good points. I knew this might be the most contraversial of my ideas. The way
I would divide an elite from a newcomer would be newcomer to brickfest, ie.
first time making the trip. but i guess that assumes any elite that would be
there are going often, or whatever. My purpose was an award that might go to
someone you wouldnt automatically expect to win an award, as a kind of
encouragement.
think of it as an award for the creation that you wouldnt expect to get one,
but still deserving. whatever, its just an idea. (its just a model)

Most Innovative Space Model (ie, use of a piece in an innovative way, etc)
|
I like this, but broaden it to not include your comment of using a
particular piece in an innovative way. Anything that looks like nothing
weve seen before should be elligable.
|
Best SpaceSHIP (for those >100 studs)
|
Sure! (but it wont be me - I dont have the parts!)
|
Best Alien craft (for the strangest looking models)
|
There could be a lot of overlap between this and the Most Innovative
category. Id drop this one.
|
I disagree. While an alien craft may be innovative, the two are not the same
thing. Take for example, Paul Hartzogs Mako.
Obviously innovative in its color and construction, but definately not alien.
As opposed to JHKs Alien fighter:
Im not going to say it isnt innovative, but not as innovative as the Mako
(which uses those basketball pieces, etc). However, where the Mako is clearly
not alien, this clearly IS.
I think including a Alien category works to help promote new design concepts
(breaking away from the fighter jet paradigm), not just creative use of
pieces/construction (thus, innovation). I think the two are similiar, and may
even have the same winner, but wont be filled with the same sort of ships, for
sure!

perhaps even subdivisions into themes? ie, Best Blacktron, best Futuron, but
then again that would be too many awards, so forget that.
|
What about a Best pre-1990 style model? That would limit design to anything
using CS, Fut, BT1, and SP1.
|
Would that include PCS?
or maybe even EB? muahahaha!!
