The G1 Transformers like Starscream were a heavy influence on this design. The
way the cockpit folds, the position of the nose, and in a small way the way the
arms fold were influenced by the design of those old Transformers. Like you
say, the new ones are crap. Sure, they are more detailed and poseable robots,
but they're just not interesting looking, and certainly no fun to build out of
Lego. It's a great thing that Lego builders take the care to make a proper
looking transformer :) That, and building really thin wall body panels would be
a little tough with Lego!

Indeed I am too. I've always loved plane-based transformers, and when I was a
kid I'd have killed for the Robotech based Skyfire/Jetfire transformer. That
thing was AWESOME!
