Unlike my earlier post about the cables and reels, this does not directly

Now moving a giant body from one place to another is obviously a sci fi
staple, so I expect a lot of references to various books, but it would also
be cool to hear some random ideas out of the blue.

For visual impact I keep imagining city sized thrusters spaced out evenly
over one side of the planet.  Or maybe a massive super thin/strong net
covering the whole planet, pulled on the other side by some space tugs.

Ideas?

hmmmmm...but would such a think lead to the cracking of the planetary crust
and a possible collapse of the planet's upper mantle?

What about the fuel source of the engines?

I think you would have to some silly Trek thing, like in the first episode
of DS9, and create a field around the planet that changes the effect of the
mass relative to the outside gravitational sources, thereby allowing a
bowling ball to be pushed by an ant.

What happens when the bowling ball rocks backward onto the ant?  ;]
