You can make a sturdy fiber optic cable conduit from Lego tubes and connectors. It can completely enclose at least two Lego fiber optic cables joined end-to-end from a light source to a light sensor. you may want to hold off on purchasing an IR tower, john barnes is working on one that uses the power from the serial port(doing away with the battery) and the parts should be very cheap. i will be working on a free-form solution that should fit (...) An IR tower from Ebay is the best bet, indeed. Or buy from Pitsco. Then get yourself a copy of NQC (or MacNQC). That's what i've done. I've augmented my original Robotics Discovery Set with pieces from several Technic sets, several purchases from (...) (25 years ago, 5-Jan-01, to lugnet.robotics.scout)

(...) I wouldn't say it's withering per say, it's more like it never really grew. It's whopping 400 bytes of user memory REALLY hampers it's abilities.
