Java 2 pbFORTH console, version 0.2 source release

Hello, This is not for the faint of heart. I wrote a Java 2-based pbFORTH console that strips out repeated characters when talking with the RCX (most of the time). It still chokes when the IR tower awakens, but you can get some pretty clean-looking (...) (25 years ago, 3-Jun-99, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.pbforth)

Lego USB Tower and the Linux Driver

An earlier thread [ (URL) ] touched on changing the baud rate of the USB IR tower. Based on what information I have been able to find, it appears that at one time the Lego USB driver for Linux did include the ability to change the baud rate and (...)   Re: Blocking IR

Here is some code for IR detection, with the help from Kekoa. However it doesn't work. I know the hardware is all working because if I run minicom and then run this programme and point the RCX at the lego tower junk appears on the screen. If I take (...)   IR questions

This is a whole bunch of IR questions, which come from my first serious fooling around with the IR. Since some of these are legOS or Linux specific, I've cross-posted- I hope no one is too offended. 1) Despite putting the bot in an infinite while (...) The reason I mention this is that my digital camera only downloads to my laptop if the laptop is plugged in to the wall. The laptop serial levels DO change (...) (...) Yes. The PB-G3 is plugged into a wall-wart almost all the time. I thought of that also. Very strange. I'm resurecting an old SE/30 in the hopes that I can squeeze MPW into an 8MB machine. I think the serial ports on that machine ought to be (...) (25 years ago, 10-Aug-99, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.nqc)

Re: Decoding the LEGO IR remote control

(...) Do you want to connect the PIC to the IR tower to receive signals from the Lego remote control, or do you want to build your own IR receiver, and attach the PIC to that? The encoding of the IR is pretty simple. The IR tower contains a circuit (...) (25 years ago, 17-Sep-99, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

  emulegOS: a new release

This version is now considered the "official" version of emulegOS, and we hope to release a Tcl based Windows version soon. The new features include: - IR support: (...)   Use PC's IR port instead of IR tower?

Hello, Is it possible to use a PC's IR port, instead of the IR tower, to communicate with an RCX? (I have a Dell Inspiron 3500). -- Brad Aisa baisa@NOSPAMbrad-aisa.com -- PGP public keys available at: (URL) faire." (25 years ago, 9-Nov-99, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

I am coming into the middle of this (or at the end considering the posting dates), and am hoping I don't sound like a fool putting out these ideas (since I don't yet know how legOS works).   Re: Tasks vs. program slots

(...) They are one and the same. When transmitting, the IR tower just uses the RS-232 TXD line to switch on the 38kHz carrier. It also has some timing circuitry to keep it alive, and an Rx side, but the Tx is painfully simple. You'll probably see (...) (25 years ago, 18-Sep-99, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.nqc)

Re: Use PC's IR port instead of IR tower?

The basic difference between PCs/PalmPilots/WinCE IR ports and the RCX is a different physical transmission/modulation protocol. In the PC etc case the commonly used format is described by the IrDa standard (www.irda.org) where seperate IR pulses (...) (25 years ago, 12-Nov-99, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)
