Re: Some goals, ideas, etc. for a new bytecode interpreter (long)

(...) While I agree that it should be similar, I think it may need some minor modifications to make it truly useful. For example, I would like to be able to control the motors without having to load a program or use a host computer. It would be nice (...) (25 years ago, 10-May-99, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

  Re: Ir transmission

(...) I can't get EMIT to work, in NQC I do this: SendMessage(255); // Flash Sleep(3); ThisRaw = RAW_LIGHT; and the raw light sensor reading has big spikes for IR reflections. but: [ HEX ] FF EMIT 30 msWait RawLight LIGHT? does not, I think that (...)   Re: Some goals, ideas, etc. for a new bytecode interpreter (long)

(...) In light of some of your points raised earlier and consideration since I first brought it up, I can see that bytecode level compatibility is not strictly required. By Look & Feel, I refer only to the observable behaviour of the RCX, not the (...) (25 years ago, 9-May-99, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

Re: Some goals, ideas, etc. for a new bytecode interpreter (long)

(...) What do you mean by end-user? Does keeping the end-user look and feel mean keeping the existing opcodes intact? You seemed to have mentioned this as a goal before but maintaining just the "look and feel" might no longer mean that. Also, you (...) (25 years ago, 8-May-99, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

  Some clarification

(...) I was not suggesting creating a potential for an L&F lawsuit from Lego by duplicating their Mindstorms product for Windows or some other PC platform, I was suggesting imitating the look & feel of their firmware on the RCX itself. (Not that I (...) (25 years ago, 8-May-99, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

Some goals, ideas, etc. for a new bytecode interpreter (long)

Forgive me while I think out load here. I'd like some feedback on some goals and ideas I've thought of for a new bytecode interpreter. Any critiques, comments, opinions, recommendations, or additions are welcome: I would hope that the new system (...) (25 years ago, 8-May-99, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

  FWD: Re: Some comments (long)

(...) In environments which provide general purpose pointer types which can be assigned to addresses of explicitly allocated memory (like C and C++), garbage collection becomes an NP-hard problem. In environments which have no end-user accessible (...) (25 years ago, 8-May-99, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

  New firmware volunteer

I'm following with great interest the discussion about a new firmware for the RCX. When the discussion started, I expressed some opinions about staying as much compatible as possible with the official firmware. Now, after a second thought, I realize (...)   Re: two task and while true

(...) Hmm: - I believe that, after main starts, unless you press IN_3 *very* quickly, that IN_3 will not be 1, hence stop wb will be chosen. Perhaps you want something like this? : task main { while (true) { wait(IN_3 == 1); // start motor wait(IN_3 (...) (25 years ago, 7-May-99, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.nqc)

  Re: Lego Network Protocol questions

(...) I believe transmission and reception are independent, i.e. the emitter circuit is decoupled from the receiver circuit. The hardware on the H8 is full duplex. Once you finish sending a byte, I think you get two interrupts: one saying a byte has (...) (25 years ago, 5-May-99, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.legos, lugnet.robotics)

  Floating point emulation

I succeeded in using (emulated) floats in a legOS program. Here are some instructions in case some of you want/need to try 32 bit FP emulation. First of all I must point out that I have no merit at all in having got this result, a part from having (...) (25 years ago, 5-May-99, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.legos)

  Re: Lego Network Protocol questions

(...) Just to state my interests: I'm mainly interested in the protocol, eg what level of service it would provide etc. In particular, I'm interested in layering a higher level gauranteed delivery protocol atop whatever simple one is provided.   Re: I'm being stupid. But how?

Here's the fair play policy: (URL) right. The Lego Group is exceedingly protective of their trademarks and intellectual property. If they haven't pursued action against legOS, it's very likely a deliberate policy rather than an oversight. Jonathan (...) (25 years ago, 5-May-99, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.legos)

Re: I'm being stupid. But how?

(...) Considering the past history of TLG, I'd say the fact that they haven't said anything about the name LegOS says a lot. TLG is paranoid about their trademark. Use Lego like a noun (as in, "I liked Legos a lot when I was a kid," or "I play with (...) (25 years ago, 4-May-99, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.legos)

Re: I'm being stupid. But how?

(...) Lego's always been a bit of a hobbyist's thing[1] so probably even TLG thinks there isn't much point in siccing lawyers on us, even if they disapproved. Big companies[2] lawyering hobbyists is really bad PR :) [1] not in any way derogatory, (...) (25 years ago, 4-May-99, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.legos)

  Re: HOWTO v 0.1

(...) Not ATM. (If I get gdb actually *working* with the LegOS I'll do a little HOWTO for that and stick it on the web, though... has anyone got it working right yet? I'm not stuck or anything, I just haven't finished getting it running.) (25 years ago, 4-May-99, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.legos)
