 | | RCX as TV remote?

Hi, all. I just got an RIS for Christmas, and I've been happily alternating between hacking on it and lurking here and at the various Lego sites on the web. Yippee, legos! Ahem. I've been interested in the possibilities of using my Palm IIIe as a (...) (26 years ago, 30-Dec-99, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.legos, lugnet.robotics.palm)

Has anyone seriously looked into setting up the Palm's IR for communicating with the RCX? I was thinking of working on this and I wanted to make sure that I won't be duplicating anyone's efforts. I was thinking it would be really cool if the Palm (...) (26 years ago, 29-Dec-99, to lugnet.robotics.palm)

FWIW ... I just downloaded, installed, and tested LRemote 1.1 and BrickRemote 0.6. Everything works great - good job Mike and anyone else that helped! My config is a Palm IIIx in a HotSync cradle, connected to the LEGO RIS IR transmitter (with the (...) (26 years ago, 17-Dec-99, to lugnet.robotics.palm)

(...) I see. So OmniRemote isn't generic enough to handle all codes from any IR device? I guess that would create a lot of overhead that the developer of OmniRemote doesn't need to get involved with, if they just want to remain in the context of (...) yes. Thanks for the nice words though. By the way I've given more thought to using the built in IR. I think we need to access the hardware directly to do it though. OmniRemote accesses the hardware directly too. I'm waiting for the color version of (...) (26 years ago, 12-Dec-99, to lugnet.robotics.palm)

Mike, You beat my response by 3 minutes and we said basically the same thing. We've been working on the same things for so long we are starting to think alike. Scary huh?! :) Robert (26 years ago, 12-Dec-99, to lugnet.robotics.palm)

Ed, LEGO does not use IrDA protocol but this is not the problem with OmniRemote. OmniRemote simply records any IR it detects at training and transmits a copy of the signals no matter what format they are in. I believe the two main problems with (...) Ed, yes the RCX is acknowledging most commands. It does not do this with the commands used in LRemote ((URL) -- I'm stuck on the old name too, for the same reason). The motor commands used in LRemote are repeating commands. As long as you hold down (...) (26 years ago, 12-Dec-99, to lugnet.robotics.palm)
