Hi, with all this talk of sonar, I thought I finally get to hooking mine up. All I get is 8". If I unplug it, I get 0". I'd swear I have it hooked up right. (...) Since 8" is the 'minimum' distance the board can see, I strongly suspect that your transducer isn't sufficiently damped. Tom, I purchased 2 OEM kits (4 ranging units w/transducers) From this I had 3 bad ranging units. You'll notice a socketed chip on the PCB. I would suspect that this chip is suspect to failure. Thanks, I followed Chuck M's advice, and disconnected the BINH, and the thing words, with 23" as the minimum distance. (...) I would have to possibly agree. I noticed in your earlier mail you have suggested putting a 330 ohm resistor between INIT (...) (28 years ago, 21-Mar-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

Ahh... This sounds right from when I had the same problem. I just forgot about the disconnecting of the BINH. Mainly because it was accidental at the time. Anyways, the point I wish to make is that you have a bad ranging unit. This symptom is (...) (28 years ago, 21-Mar-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

Tom, You mentioned that the INIT has the 330ohm. I'm pretty sure it's the BINH and NOT the INIT that should have the 330ohm. Reread Kents documentation. I don't think you would have damaged the unit in this short of time. Like I've mentioned on many (...) (28 years ago, 21-Mar-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

(...) I wouldn't think so. I am looking in Kents documentation, and sure enough, there is something about putting a resistor on BINH. Also something about putting a cap in C7 on the ranging board. Tom, I put the cap in too - never noticed much defference. It must just be for some minimal filtering of noise. I don't know how well you know Ben, but it sounds as though you will probably be fixing this one solo, eh? Do you have manuals? I'll look (...)
