Hi, with all this talk of sonar, I thought I finally get to hooking
mine up.

All I get is 8".  If I unplug it, I get 0".

I'd swear I have it hooked up right.  Someone sent out a mail earlier
this week, and I had mine hooked up just like it said.  I have put it
on a o'scope, and I see pulses getting received, but it seems like
they are alays at the same time.

Since I have 2 sonar boards (and transducers), I tried the second one,
just laying on the bench, and it says the same thing.

Does this sound like the same trouble anyone else has run into?

Thanks

Tom, Are you hearing a ticking sound coming from the transducer? Let me know. (...) (28 years ago, 20-Mar-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

(...) Since 8" is the 'minimum' distance the board can see, I strongly suspect that your transducer isn't sufficiently damped. This will cause it to continue 'ringing' after the pulse is sent and when the receiver switches on, its still vibrating so (...) (28 years ago, 20-Mar-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

Tom, I purchased 2 OEM kits (4 ranging units w/transducers) From this I had 3 bad ranging units. You'll notice a socketed chip on the PCB. I would suspect that this chip is suspect to failure. Anyways, in order to solve your problem, I would suggest (...) (28 years ago, 21-Mar-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

Keith, On the ftp site under ???/contrib/kent/sonar there should be a file called sonartst.c This file tests the unit goven that you've included sonar.icb in the initial loading of library files. The file simply calls the ping(0) routine then waits (...) (28 years ago, 20-Mar-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)
