Hi there, I'm in the midst of ordering all of the parts necessary to assemble the Handy Board. However, I'm having trouble finding two parts. They are the following: Description Catalog No. Manufacturer ---...--- ---...--- ---...--- Infrared (...) (27 years ago, 21-Jul-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Re: FW: Serial Communications.

Hi Fred: The Mini SSC does have a TTL-mode, but it needs inverted data i/o mode. Rather than figuring out how to do that in s/w I just used the MAX232 because it was easy and it made debugging easy into a dumb terminal program on my PC. I've had (...)   Re: Servo control using Miniboard slaved to Handyboard.

Using the Miniboard as a servo slave is a good idea, perhaps even easier is to use a BOTBoard since the BOTBoard doesn't have any motor drivers hooked up to it (no PCB modification required.) Using the MiniSSC is "ok" but for controlling multiple, (...) (27 years ago, 21-Jul-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Re: FW: Serial Communications.

Mike -- Doesn't the Mini SSC have a TTL-levels mode, making the MAX232 unnecessary? Please send your serial output code, though. that would be good to distribute. -Fred In your message you said: (...) (27 years ago, 21-Jul-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  FW: Serial Communications.

Hi John: I've used the HB to send serial command strings to a Mini SSC (for the Lynxmotion arm). I built a tiny daughterboard with a MAX232 that plugged into J6 on the board for power. Software handshaking is minimal and the MiniSSC works fine. If I (...) (27 years ago, 21-Jul-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Exp Board ETA?

I was wondering whether there was an estimated date for the availability of the said expansion board for the HB... there is a design and schematics for a proposed Exp Board on the web site from February and I remember a thread of discussion and (...)   RE: Serial Communications.

Thanks for the info. I would like to see the code and wiring diagram if that's possible. Thanks for the help. John Hatton. (...) (27 years ago, 21-Jul-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

Re: Servo control using Miniboard slaved to Handyboard.

A friend of mine built a radio controlled walker with six legs using twelve servos and a single BASIC stamp to control the walking. The stamp accepts the PWM from the RC receiver (using the pbasic 'pulsin' command) and outputs the pulses to all of (...) (27 years ago, 21-Jul-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

Servo control using Miniboard slaved to Handyboard.

As an addition to my earlier message I have a cheaper and possibly more versatile way of controlling the servos. I have obtained information on the Servo16 algorithm by Erik de la Iglesia which runs on a MC68HC11E1 (he mentions using the E9 but the (...)   Serial Communications.

I am considering using two MiniSSC II servo controllers from Lynxmotion ((URL) to control the servos on a six leg walker using the handyboard as the CPU. The only problem is that the MiniSSC uses asynchronous serial communication. Is it possible to (...) (27 years ago, 21-Jul-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

Re: LM34 temp sensor to handy board?

I tried the circuit out tonight, and it works! (Mostly.) I hooked up a 1K and a 3K resistor for R2 and R1, for a gain of 4, and the output is roughly linear with the input. Still need to do some more testing. I ended up having to use a +/- 12V (...) (27 years ago, 21-Jul-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Re: Geting Started?

Why don't you start by perusing the web site... pretty much all of your questions are answered there. The site's home URL is (URL) in particular: * the FAQ * the "get your hands on a handy board" * the software resources page * the tech docs page (...)   Re: LM34 temp sensor to handy board?

It sounds like you just want a standard non-inverting amplifier. wire an op amp like this: |\ sensor------|+\ | >-+-analog input of 6811 +--|-/ | | |/ | +----R1-+ | R 2 | GND where R1 and R2 are chosen such that (R1+R2)/R2 is the gain you want, in (...)   Geting Started?

Hi everyone, I am fairly new to robotics/electronics and was wondering how to get started with the HandyBoard. So what is the best way to get started? I already know how to program more or less in C and a little in C++ can you program the Handy (...) (27 years ago, 21-Jul-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

LM34 temp sensor to handy board?

I've got on my desk here a National Semiconductor LM34 temperature sensor. It outputs a voltage corresponding to 10mV/deg F. So, if it's 78 degrees F in the room, I get a voltage of .78V. I'd like to hook this device to an analog port on my handy (...) (27 years ago, 20-Jul-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Com port trouble with IC

I recently bought a Handy Board which works fine, but my version of Interactive C wants to communicate with the board via COM1 only. The port I have available, without completely changing my computer setup, is COM3. How do you get IC to change ports (...) (27 years ago, 20-Jul-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Re: Voltage

(...) 12v is fine. you could up go to 18v or so w/o problems. you might not even need to change the adapter. if the yellow charge LEDs light, then the batt is charging ok. it will be slower than the original pack but maybe that is not a problem for (...) no, it should be just as bright. make sure you use the special low-current HLMP LEDs as specified. normal LEDs won't work right. -Fred (...) (27 years ago, 20-Jul-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Voltage

Hello all, What is the max. voltage I can run through the handyboard. I have a 12v dry cell battery that I would like to use. If I can use a 12v battery, can I change the transformer to the handyboard charging/serial unit? Also, I am looking for a (...) (27 years ago, 20-Jul-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  assembling i/c board
