  IR communication (fwd)

Can someone please attempt to help me out.. second posting??? I want to get five handyboards to talk to each other using infrared transmission... I use infrared transmitter/receiver reflectance sensors for other things... 1) What parts (I need (...) (28 years ago, 20-Nov-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Battery Care

Hi, What's the best way to care for the NiCd pack of the Handyboard? I understand that NiCd's undergo the "memory effect". Does this mean that you should always use your Handyboard untill the RED LED light comes on...and then recharge it? Is it OK (...) (28 years ago, 20-Nov-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Polaroid Sonar

Hi, I'm powering my Ranging Module with the 9.6V unregulated motor power header. Does anyone know if there is a danger in doing so? (28 years ago, 19-Nov-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Re: mode select pins

(...) The HB runs in special test mode to facilitate control of the LCD screen. Read the Appendix B information in the Tech Docs section for more info. -Fred (28 years ago, 19-Nov-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Uh oh, serial questions

I am trying to get a handyboard and a miniboard to talk to each other over the serial ports. I am using Randy Sargent's notes, and that all seems fine. Some times, quite randomly, the handyboard "locks up". The heart beat stops, and the board stops (...) (28 years ago, 19-Nov-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  mode select pins

Can somebody explain to me why the Handyboard MODB pin is hardwired to zero when normal expanded mode requires it to be set high. My book says MODA and MODB should be zero for special bootstrap mode and both high for normal expanded. According to (...) (28 years ago, 19-Nov-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Bug

(...) Oops. Anytime you find a "fatal internal error", you've found a bug in IC (even if your code happens to be wrong, IC should _never_ give a fatal internal error). Please mail us a copy of the code that causes IC to barf, and we'll fix the bug (...) (28 years ago, 19-Nov-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Error Message

I am using the IC for windows 95 that I have downloaded from the newtonlabs website and when I tried to download one particular IC file that I wrote, I got the error Fatal internal error: Illegal type -1610612735 in type__name It is probably not (...)   Re:

I have similar problems often when my board is low on battery... could it be that your battery is low low... And I turn the board on before hooking it up to the serial board. (...) this could also be a problem with the cable betw the interface/charger and the host computer. does the green led on the interface go on when plugged into the host CPU? if not, this is indicative of such a cable probl. however, the pwr light on the (...)   Re:

(...) and (...) I've noticed that plugging in or unplugging the serial/charger cable confuses the board. Try plugging it in first, then putting it into DL mode. If you want to unplug it, turn it off first, then power it back on (e.g, after you've (...) (28 years ago, 19-Nov-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

Hey guys, My handy board has worked great so far! I've hooked it up with bumpers light detectors, and infared proximity detectors. But unfortunatly, last time I tried to load Pcode, my handy would not go into bootstrap download mode. After screwing (...) (28 years ago, 19-Nov-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Digital Compass

Dose anyone know how to hook up the Vector 2X Digital Compass to the handyboard. I know to use the SPI, but what else. Any info would be great. Illegitmi non carborundum -scoooty- (28 years ago, 18-Nov-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Re: Handyboard in the U.K.

(...) Im not sure if Radio Shack is in the U.K. or not (I doubt it) but they sell ultrasonic tape measures for about $29. Possibly you could order a catalog from them. Alternately there were several suggestions for building your own in the group (...) (28 years ago, 18-Nov-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  RE: sonar (fwd)

(...) This is correct, but it isn't too expensive. Scott Edwards has a PIC that will do all of the computation for you. I built a cheesy ultrasonic sensor using a Ramsey Electronics Tone Detector and a modified Rainbow electronics IR-3 board. (total (...) (28 years ago, 18-Nov-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Handyboard in the U.K.

I'm just getting started into robotics and have spent the last weekend going over the archived mailing list (big isn't it?!). It has certainly whetted my appetite. I've lashed together a rudimentary 6811 board and have since discovered the (...) (28 years ago, 18-Nov-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

Ok, the Ultrasonic Docs are up http://www.vnet.net/wizorg/wizorg.html

Howdy all, I've gone ahead and put up the Ultrasonic Ranging System documentation and schematics on my web page: (URL) Hope it helps someone! John (28 years ago, 18-Nov-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Re: sonar (fwd)

Just to add a basic newbie note on receiver blanking that will have to be designed in if you build it yourself. A transmit pulse is a very powerful (relatively speaking) pulse. For example, the Polaroid transducer, about the size of a silver dollar, (...) (28 years ago, 18-Nov-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Re: Used Handy Boards

(...) Can't offer much wisdom at this time since we are at the same place as you. Decided on Handyboard, saw three different suppliers in the HB stuff at MIT, and will decide this week which to buy.
