Re: Decision - Robolab 4 pak vs 4 RIS packages!

(...) I just had the same opportunity to purchase four RIS for my school. After much thought I purchased four separate RIS at Best Buy for $199 ea. Because I purchased them locally I paid no shipping. I ordered from Pitsco the Robolab software plus (...) (26 years ago, 16-Nov-99, to lugnet.robotics.edu)

Re: Decision - Robolab 4 pak vs 4 RIS packages!

(...) Not as a teacher, but as a student, I would say that the LEGO is a far better 'deal' for the students than the robotic arm. I've played with both ( I have 2 RCX's, and a Mini Scout), and used a robotic arm in school. You can build a robotic (...) (26 years ago, 16-Nov-99, to lugnet.robotics.edu)

Decision - Robolab 4 pak vs 4 RIS packages!

I have an opportunity to purchase some additional sets for my classroon. Currently I have one RIS with some additional sensors, motors, pneumatics, and an extra RCX. Please offer some advice on purchasing 4 complete RIS sets as compared to a ROBOLAB (...) (26 years ago, 16-Nov-99, to lugnet.robotics.edu)

fixed links on gear math curriculum

thanks to Terry for pointing out the bad links to images at my middle school site. they are fixed. (URL) are RCX and non-RCX LEGO curriculum ideas here, as well as "mixed-media" stuff between woodworking and LEGO, and also just straight woodworking (...)   Re: Teaching robotics

(...) I don't think it is long enough by far. My non-robotics Technic session runs 2 hours and it's not long enough: I have them fighting to get in the door early and trying to pry them off the Lego and clear up at the end is... difficult. Most of (...) (26 years ago, 11-Nov-99, to lugnet.edu, lugnet.robotics, lugnet.robotics.edu)

  Re: Teaching robotics

(...) That's my posting so let me just qualify that your ambition will decide this question. If you make "guided tours" through the Mindstorms Universe - then you can of course do it in 1-hour steps. However, I think Mindstorms is at it's best when (...) (26 years ago, 10-Nov-99, to lugnet.edu, lugnet.robotics, lugnet.robotics.edu)

  Teaching robotics

I have started an after-school robotics club at my kids' elementary school. I will be spending one hour a week each with groups of K-2nd grade and 3rd-5th grade, 6 kids in each group, working with the RIS set. The school is a gifted magnet school (...)   Re: Cat by the tail!: Rcx / MindStorms Classroom

*** Forwarded from Tonya, who is having trouble posting here... *** In my opinion the mindstorms sets for $199 are the best deal. If you can buy them locally (Best Buy) then you can even save shipping. Mindstorms RIS includes the exact same parts as (...) (26 years ago, 3-Nov-99, to lugnet.robotics.edu)

  Re: Cat by the tail!

Steve, I'm working on some material; will be developing more as I teach some Middle School kids starting soon. Let's try to collaborate here. I am researching other Education links and lists for current Mindstorms users in Education. I will try to (...) (26 years ago, 2-Nov-99, to lugnet.robotics.edu)

Re: Cat by the tail!: Rcx / MindStorms Classroom

Fred, I'm confused by the Pitsco site. Which package are you referring to as the "Mindstroms Bulk" set? Have you seen one of these?? I'm wondering if there is any advantage over 4 retail Mindstorms sets at $199 each or so.... Software: I was (...) (26 years ago, 2-Nov-99, to lugnet.robotics.edu)

Re: ABC News coverage of "Astronaut Companion" Robot

Not to be a nudge back at you, but I believe that they DO use fans. The information that I saw regarding these gave me the impression that they were for INSIDE the spacecraft. Where there would be plenty of air, in use for other relatively mundane (...) (26 years ago, 2-Nov-99, to lugnet.robotics.edu)

  Re: Cat by the tail!

  Cat by the tail!

My school principal walked by a display of one of my grade 12 students showing one of his Mindstorms creations. He was so impressed he approached my department head about providing funding for 5 additional RIS sets. I don't think he realizes that (...) (26 years ago, 2-Nov-99, to lugnet.robotics.edu)

RE: ABC News coverage of "Astronaut Companion" Robot

Not to be a nudge or anything, but I doubt they use fans....there isn't much air up there to push around ;>) The astronaut back packs use compressed nitrogen, I believe. I don't think they use them (after the initial tests), because of the inherent (...) (26 years ago, 1-Nov-99, to lugnet.robotics.edu)

  SF Convention Robotics Demo

Since Terry asked me over, and I hadn't noticed this group before... On October 23rd I did a robotics demo at a local SF convention in Denver Colorado. I was bummed this was on the same day as the SRS Robothon AND Mindfest, but, I made the best of (...) (26 years ago, 1-Nov-99, to lugnet.robotics.edu)

ABC News coverage of "Astronaut Companion" Robot
