  Do I want a micromotor?

Comparatively speaking, what are the major diffences between a standard motor and a micromotor? What is required to connect to it's output? It appears that it has the small toothed gear like the small toothed pulley in the Pitsco catalog... How much (...) (25 years ago, 11-Jan-00, to lugnet.robotics)

RE: Do I want a micromotor?

The micromotor is much smaller - not much bigger than a 2x2 brick. It's geared down a lot, and it's output turns very slowly. I estimate it at about 1 turn per second (60 rpm). You could use it for positioning (moving an arm or a lever) where you (...) (25 years ago, 11-Jan-00, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) about (...) ...maybe if you connect it to 18 VDC (^; I think you'll find the rotation is a bit closer to appr. 30 rpm. It's slow, but it's not terribly slow either. I find it very useful for powering gripers on end of arm tools for my robot (...) (25 years ago, 12-Jan-00, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) I took one apart, which was terminally jammed since the day I got it. The gears are extrememly tiny (nylon gears with teeth maybe the thickness of 1-2 human hairs), and are made in such a way that an outer gear surrounds the inner gears (I (...) (25 years ago, 14-Jan-00, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Do I want a micromotor?

(...) I've made an electrically activated pneumatic switcher with a micromotor, and a 3:1 gear ratio. It's not quite perfect, it could probably use a higher gear reduction (or maybe just fresh batteries) but it's pretty small (6w X 5d X 5h) and (...) (25 years ago, 17-Jan-00, to lugnet.robotics)
