Based upon Rich's comments on the X10 2.4Ghz remote camera, I ordered one and it
arrived on Friday.  I promptly wnt to Radi shack and bought a coaxial power
connector (274-1533; 4.75x1.7mm) to fit the camera power jack.  Then attached
the lego style power wire connector and inserted a fresh set of AA batteries
into a 6 cell battery box.

Transmits just fine.  I put the receiver on an Intel USB camera's external video
jack so I could video capture to the PC and web.  Works great through the wall
and out from the house over 150 feet.

The camera itself is a little bit dark, but I put another micro camera on and it
proves the transmitter works just fine.  I don't know idf this is due to the
lego setup using 9V instead of the included wall-wart's 12v; the 2nd micro
camera I tried has it's own 4.5V pack.

BTW, Rich mentioned that the $88 X10 setup didn't have audio, but the one I
got does???

Looks like it is going to work great as soon as I have a platform built.

The picture isn't good enough for me to see what the thingy on the front • of
the "rover" is -- I somehow doubt that it is a video camera (would • probably
make the set waaaay more expensive than the $54 figure being tossed around
here), but it doesn't look much like anything I've seen before.

It sure looks like a camera to me. You can even see a somewhat thicker cable
coming off of the camera. Although low-res "golf ball" style cameras have
gotten pretty cheap, I agree that $54 still seems too low.

Working with the rover tethered to the computer seems a little awkward. Rich
Thompson was working on using a remote video camera from X10. How's that
going Rich?

The smaller camera doesn't have audio, but the newer globe shaped camera does have audio on-board. I paid the same for both since I bought one earlier than the other. I can get audio transmitted to the TV, but not to my current sound card :( The (...) (25 years ago, 5-Dec-99, to lugnet.robotics)
