  Re: Problems with RCX, ROBOLAB and Macintosh

Hallo Will, it can't be the adapter cable which is wrong. With NQC -the very good programming software from Dave Baum- I have no problem to contact the RCX. Downloading the firmware, sending programs, starting programs ... it's okay. Everything (...) (25 years ago, 14-Jun-99, to lugnet.robotics)

Gee, I joined this list hoping there would be some good suggestions, not anti-Mac sentiment. Gotta say, makes me feel a bit unwelcome. -Kevin (...) (25 years ago, 16-Jun-99, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Problems with RCX, ROBOLAB and Macintosh

I certainly hope my recent pro-Linux post was taken in the good humor it was intended in. Kevin, I don't think most of us are anti-mac (I regularly drool over my roommate's G3!) but there have been complex problems with using the Mindstorms hardware (...)   Re: Problems with RCX, ROBOLAB and Macintosh

Don't feel unwelcome.... Mac/Mindstorms users are a minority. The Wintel crowd will take an occasional pot-shot, but what does it matter? In fact, I interpreted Michael's comment to be a joking comment rather than an "attack". More along the lines (...) (25 years ago, 17-Jun-99, to lugnet.robotics)

Kevin now be nice! It was all in good humor. I was just talking *^%&^ about macs because i dont know nothin' about them, & your an easy minority to pick on! : ) Trolltruck (...) (25 years ago, 17-Jun-99, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Problems with RCX, ROBOLAB and Macintosh

Sorry, folks. I think it was just that that was the very first message I got after subscribing to the list, and it just hit me the wrong way. I use Mac and Linux and Win95 under VirtualPC (which is how I communicate with the RCX currently, though (...) (25 years ago, 17-Jun-99, to lugnet.robotics)

  using nqc for first time

Hi all- Need some help troubleshooting this: I'm trying nqc on the Mac, and so the first thing I did was try the test program that came with it, but I'm getting weird errors. I should preface this by saying that my current setup of cables, IR tower (...) (25 years ago, 20-Jun-99, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: using nqc for first time

(...) Very strange. I've heard of some problems with *long* programs failing to load, but never with something as short as test.nqc. Try the following command and e-mail me the results (dbaum@enteract.com) nqc -d -l -v test.nqc (this will print a (...) (25 years ago, 20-Jun-99, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) Cool. Thanks for checking this out. I did get one failure, and then one success, and here are the outputs: nqc -d -l -v test.nqc *** Task 0 = main 000 InType 0, Switch 32 00 01 003 InMode 0, Boolean 42 00 20 006 OutDir A, Fwd e1 81 008 OutMode (...)   Re: using nqc for first time

The traces confirm a couple of things: 1) Normally the IR tower will "echo" all data that it sends (just a side effect of the LED blasting out the light and the phototransistor picking it up). In your case there are a significant amount of bit (...) (25 years ago, 23-Jun-99, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: using nqc for first time

(...) Voila! Everything seems to work fine on the modem port! I just assumed it would make no difference. Not only does nqc work, but my RoboLab software now works also. I wonder why? I always thought that these two ports were basically the same - I (...) (25 years ago, 24-Jun-99, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: using nqc for first time

(...) My first guess would be that its a software issue and not hardware. The ports should be nearly identical hardware-wise (unless you have a geoport enabled modem port). It could be that something else (AppleTalk?) is munging with the port. I can (...) (25 years ago, 24-Jun-99, to lugnet.robotics)
