No.  I don't think this one is a good idea.  Although the premise is
sound, I would advise using something inanimate rather than a live
mouse.  (perhaps a wind-up cat-toy, or motorized mouse, or perhaps even
a customized LEGO 'bot).  We wouldn't want a real mouse inadvertently
getting smooshed by a careless 'bot.

More importantly, mice can climb over the shepherd.

I'd be less concerned about the mice crawling all over the lego than I would
be about the safety of the mouse.  LEGO constructs can be easily be cleaned,
repaired, or even replaced at a nominal cost  If a careless 'bot happened to
go right over the mouse, however, the mouse could be seriously injured and
might have to be put down.  Can we put any kind of value on someone else's
pet?

Let me start by saying that I agree with you 100%.  Mouse
torture does not make for an interesting game. :)  On the other hand,
I think we are strongly underestimating the mouse.  Anyone who has
every tried to catch one when it gets loose will know that they
have far more than three inputs and three outputs. :) :) :)  Still,
why needlessly terrorize innocent mice?  There are already some
guys building a neural netted robot cat that will some day be able to
do that for us. (http://slashdot.org./articles/99/01/08/137239.shtml)

Anyway,
