NQC "No reply from RCX" Help Please

Ahhh..can someone please help me out here. I'm at my last straw with this problem. I'm Using: Bricxcc 3.3 NQC 2.4 a4 Windows 98 USB Tower from RIS 2.0 This has all worked about a month ago.. I haven't made any hardware changes to my system recently, (...) (23 years ago, 8-Mar-02, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: NQC "No reply from RCX" Help Please

Is the firmware still installed on the RCX? When you turn it on if it just shows a single digit, then there isn't any firmware. With firmware loaded you should see something like "00.00!1" where ! is the LCD icon of a person. If firmware is not (...) (23 years ago, 9-Mar-02, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: NQC "No reply from RCX" Help Please

Wow! Hey..thanks..that was it. I hadn't changed my batteries in any of my RCX since I got them. When I changed all of them a few weeks ago, I must have lost the firmware. I saw your name..and was like.."hmm where have I heard of you before" then I (...) (23 years ago, 9-Mar-02, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) I'm glad it was a simple fix. Thanks also for buying my book - I hope you found it helpful and/or enjoyable. Dave Baum (23 years ago, 10-Mar-02, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: NQC "No reply from RCX" Help Please

(...) Well, I'm having a similar problem, but in my case, NQC and bricxcc just don't even ever see the brick. I have firmware installed, and the Lego RIS 2.0 software works and communicates perfectly with the brick (little green light on the USB (...) (23 years ago, 20-May-02, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: NQC "No reply from RCX" Help Please

(...) My first guess on this problem is that the firmware is no longer loaded on the RCX. Check the LCD display - if it doesn't show 5 digits (e.g. "00.00 1") then the firmware isn't installed. If you can locate the firmware file (typically called (...) (23 years ago, 20-May-02, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: NQC "No reply from RCX" Help Please

(...) <snip> (...) The most likely thing I can think of is some program is running that is holding open the USB Tower port. I think Jeff told me via e-mail that he is using the latest release of BricxCC/NQC. A less likely alternative would be a (...) (23 years ago, 20-May-02, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: NQC "No reply from RCX" Help Please

(...) It definately said "could not open serial port" (I typed it in quotes even and copied it directly from the program). The NQC version is the latest off your page (2.4_r2). And I was using the -SUSB (I'll have to go back and double check that I (...) (23 years ago, 20-May-02, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: NQC "No reply from RCX" Help Please

(...) I'm about to go ahead and wipe the laptop hard drive and just reinstall WinXP and see if I can get everything working from a clean install. I've done a LOT of things on this lap top and had quite a few USB devices installed... -Jeff McClain (23 years ago, 20-May-02, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: NQC "No reply from RCX" Help Please

(...) Can you type "nqc" and check to see what version number it prints out? I've double-checked the source code, and it should say "Could not open serial port or USB device". Is it possible there are multiple versions of NQC and your command path (...) (23 years ago, 22-May-02, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: NQC "No reply from RCX" Help Please

(...) Hum, says: nqc version 2.4 r3 (built Mar 24 2002, 16:32:33) Thought I had r2 for some reason, but it says same thing if I fully path it. (...) (23 years ago, 22-May-02, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: NQC "No reply from RCX" Help Please

(...) Well, I reinstalled Windows XP and then installed RIS 2.0 and NQC/BRICXCC and everything worked like a dream. I have no idea why it wouldn't work before (did everything the same). Strange that it would work in RIS 2.0 but not in NQC or (...) (23 years ago, 24-May-02, to lugnet.robotics)
