Please pardon the self-reply -
A quick note of thanks to all those who offered advice on this.
The problem seems to be the version and type of web browser. Syngress
apparently doesn't support IE 6.x, but it will work on v5.5x. Others have
had problems with Netscape, so if you get into the same situation, be
prepared to fire up a different browser and try the download there.
I have IE v5.50 on another machine back home, so I'll use that next week to
get my goods. I haven't heard from Syngress yet, but LUGNET members have
risen to the occasion.
