There are a few more things you can do with the new version of firmware,
but i dont know exactly what they are. A search through old Lugnet posts
should find you some answers.

NQC can do a LOT more with the 2.0 firmware than it can with the earlier
versions - a quick check of the manual turns up:

* arrays,
* local variables,
* access controls and events,
* global motor controls,
* sound mute and un-mute,
* clearing pending sounds,
* displaying variables on the LCD panel (my favorite new feature!),
* direct IR serial output control,
* higher resolution timers,
* counters,
* re-seedable random numbers,
* ability to start another program from within this one,
* battery level check,
* firmware revision number check.

I don't know which of these are accessible via the Lego programming
environment - but they are all new firmware features in 2.0 and they
all work OK with RCX's from 1.0 or 1.5 sets.

There have been three different box labellings: 1.0, 1.5, 2.0. However, the RCXs in boxes labelled 1.5 still said 1.0 on the side. RCXs from RIS 1.5 and 2.0 have no adapter jack. About software: I have 1.0 and 2.0, and i like the 2.0 software much (...) (23 years ago, 30-Oct-01, to lugnet.robotics)
