There have been three different box labellings: 1.0, 1.5, 2.0.
However, the RCXs in boxes labelled 1.5 still said 1.0 on the side.
RCXs from RIS 1.5 and 2.0 have no adapter jack.

About software:

I have 1.0 and 2.0, and i like the 2.0 software much more than the 1.0.
I've never used 1.5.

About firmware:

There are two versions of firmware available. One came with RIS 1.0 and
1.5, the other with 2.0. The version that came with 2.0 is available for
free from the lego web site (i dont have the url), and is completely
compatible with RCXs labelled 1.0.

There are a few more things you can do with the new version of firmware,
but i dont know exactly what they are. A search through old Lugnet posts
should find you some answers.

I would appreciate being corrected if i am inacurrate in any of my
statments.

Trevyn.

Hello everyone,
I'm sort of new here, at least to this newsgroup.  Can someone sum up
the the differences between the Robotic Invention Systems versions 1.0, 1.5,
and 2.0?  Ignore the parts lists, I already know about those.  What I want
to know is the differences in the hardware interfaces.  (Such as, I think I
heard something about the 2.0 lacking a 9V adapter jack.)

Also, which version of the 'official' software do you think is best?  I'll
probably be moving to legOS or something similar eventually, but I'm
curious.

Any help and input is appreciated.  Thanks in advance!

NQC can do a LOT more with the 2.0 firmware than it can with the earlier versions - a quick check of the manual turns up: * arrays, * local variables, * access controls and events, * global motor controls, * sound mute and un-mute, * clearing (...)
