  powering RCX2.0

Hello, I think I remember a post about using a 9V adaptor to power some version of the RCX during testing, but could not find it on the website. Do I remember this right? Thanks! -cmr (23 years ago, 6-Sep-01, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: powering RCX2.0

RCX 1.0 is the only unit that has a 9 volt adapter port. You can use an ac or dc 9volt supply on this. The power supply for the trains is suitable. -- Bob Fay rfay@we.mediaone.net The Shop (URL) Radu" <lego-robotics@crynwr.com> wrote in message (...) (23 years ago, 6-Sep-01, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) However many people had problems when using DC power regularly - probably becuase it burned out one half of the rectifier. I'd advise using a 10V AC adapter if you're gonna be using it regularly. (Of course you've gotta get a RCX 1.0 first!!) (...) (23 years ago, 7-Sep-01, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Posi-trac differential?

Nice! I particularly like the way you put the 12-tooth gears diagonally opposite for weight balance in the turntable version. I'm going to try moving them in Brian Alano's triangle lift-arm housing (third rototype) design and see how that affects (...) (23 years ago, 7-Sep-01, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Posi-trac differential?

I'm not sure I follow you here. Even though the 16-tooth gear doesn't mesh as deeply, it seems to be sufficient to prevent slippage. There is a little more slop, however. Note that in my suggestion to move the worm gear shaft to the diagonal, I may (...) (23 years ago, 8-Sep-01, to lugnet.robotics)

You can substitute 16-tooth gears in place of the crankshaft pieces to jam the dark grey gear. The disadvantage is the extra width. Dennis (...) (23 years ago, 8-Sep-01, to lugnet.robotics)

  Help: RCX 1.0 power adapter

I just picked up a 1.0 set, and I looked through the documentation for info on the type of adapter to use. There appears to be nothing at all in any of the manuals. So I'm looking at the RCX itself. It says "9-12V~". Is the "~" supposed to indicate (...) (22 years ago, 31-Aug-02, to lugnet.robotics)

I use Radio Shack 273-1631. I have a number of these and I have been using them for a couple of years. These devices have a voltage selector switch which I set to 9v. In fact, I wedge a short length of wooden tooth-pick in the switch slot to avoid (...) (22 years ago, 31-Aug-02, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Help: RCX 1.0 power adapter

Your comment intrigued me into checking. I grabbed a couple of transformers and checked them (with a 4 1/2 digit true rms meter). Off load (open circuit) one reads 10.4v a/c, the other 10.9v a/c. That is well within Lego's 9 - 12v a/c spec. JB (...) (22 years ago, 31-Aug-02, to lugnet.robotics)

Thanks to everyone for the responses. I feel a little better about actually using the port now. I was concerned because of the speculation a while back regarding why the port was removed, and I have no intention of burning out the unit. -- Tony (...) (22 years ago, 3-Sep-02, to lugnet.robotics)
