My attempt failed when adding an extension cable 2 meters in length. The
computer reported a failure to communicate with the IR tower. The total
length of the two joined cables apparently exceeds the maximum length for IR
Tower communication. What maximum length of extension cable would you
recommend?

| (...) There must be something terribly wrong if you couldn't get it to go over a couple of meters. RS-232's maximum cable length depends on the baud rate - at 9600, it's good for about 500 meters IIRC. The tower comms is about 1200? 2400? You (...) (24 years ago, 15-Feb-01, to lugnet.robotics)

Back in the olden days, when we updated a BIOS by changing the actual chip (no FLASH then) we would often put the chip in a second socket, or put (...) (24 years ago, 14-Feb-01, to lugnet.robotics)
