  RCX port information

Hi All, Does anyone have any information regarding how the I/O ports interface to the micro-controller. I would like to do some work on expanding the number and types of sensors. But, I'm finding it difficult to locate technical information on the (...) (26 years ago, 11-Dec-98, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: RCX port information

Hi Scott, there is lots of technical info available. The H8/3297 series hardware manual is probably what you're looking for: (URL) pdf version is available on the same site. More specifically, the microcontroller has 8 A/D input pins. Right now, (...) (26 years ago, 12-Dec-98, to lugnet.robotics)

In article <3672587C.A2E4F0D5@i...alpes.fr>, Markus L. Noga <Markus.Noga@inrialpes.fr> writes (...) Best ask them for the 500 page book - H8/3644 Series User's Manual (H8/3644 14496 1/98) - and the Electronics Components Databook on CD rom. (...) (26 years ago, 12-Dec-98, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: RCX port information

(...) Whoa... so you mean, I can just like, take apart a 9V lead, solder them to those pins, and have 2 extra sensor inputs? or is there extra 'lectronics involved? Jasper (26 years ago, 17-Dec-98, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: RCX port information

(...) Nobody tried so far. The above is merely speculation - that's why I said "candidates". Should the pins turn out to be unused, legOS will support 6 A/D channels with minor changes. I have some software to work on right now, and I have a student (...) (26 years ago, 17-Dec-98, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: RCX port information

(...) The pins are 99% definitely unused. To whoever tries this, good luck with that soldering iron. -Kekoa (26 years ago, 18-Dec-98, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) Well... my RCX won't be shipped till after jan 1... ohwell. I'll look into it when I get it, tho. 6 inputs is _so_ much more useful than 3. Jasper (26 years ago, 21-Dec-98, to lugnet.robotics)

Jasper Janssen wrote in message <367e4988.249561728@...et.com>... (...) You might want to try the input multiplexer I developed first. It won't void your warranty like cutting up your RCX will and it will give you up to 7 channels on one RCX input. (...) (26 years ago, 21-Dec-98, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: RCX port information

(...) I should clarify this before anyone breaks their RCX. The pins are 99% definitely unused. By the ROM driver. They might, however, be tied to Vss or Vdd, so make sure you don't short anything out if do attempt to solder something to the extra (...) (26 years ago, 21-Dec-98, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) half the cost of a new RIS, let alone a RCX. But thanks for the link, I'll archive it for now... Jasper (26 years ago, 21-Dec-98, to lugnet.robotics)
