  Re: Strong gear assemble?

I believe the weakest points are the axles. They twist and bend easily. At points where you have to transfer the largest forces, make sure you don't have long axle sections between the wheels. Keep the wheels next to each other if possible. If you (...) (25 years ago, 21-Sep-00, to lugnet.robotics)

  RE: Strong gear assemble?

A worm gear mounted against a 40t gear is, I believe, the 2-gear combination that provides the most torque. You may want to gear down the worm gear first, providing even more torque. In general, as speed decreases (assuming the decrease is caused by (...) (25 years ago, 21-Sep-00, to lugnet.robotics)

  Strong gear assemble?

What is the strongest gear assebly? Using mostly RIS 1.5 pieces, but some extras, I need to design a gear box that has enough strength to lift the contraptions own weight. What is the strongest possible settup of gears that i could use to achieve (...) (25 years ago, 21-Sep-00, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Advice on Rotation sensors and steering please.

I discovered, during the course of implementing a software interface to the Lego rotation sensors on another hardware platform altogether (not RCX) that there is a problem with the sensors themselves. They suffer from the well known "between states" (...) (25 years ago, 21-Sep-00, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Advice on Rotation sensors and steering please.

(...) I have run into "count loss" using the rotation sensors also. I found that anything above 40RPM is somewhat problematic. I imagine the exact numbers depend upon the size of the program you are running and how it is designed. But no matter what (...) (25 years ago, 21-Sep-00, to lugnet.robotics)

  Lego bulk

I just noticed the text above the Lego Bulk page (this is in the Summer 20000 S@H catalog) ... It reads, in part: "We'll be adding more soon BASED ON CUSTOMER REQUESTS. (...) Yes - but it doesn't tell me the distance travelled - I need that too. Still, I guess that using one sensor in the differential for steering and one on *one* of the wheels for distance would work better. I guess that the fact that the (...) (25 years ago, 21-Sep-00, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Rotation sensor gearing.

Hi ! (...) I think that common sense might lead you to suspect a number like 60 rpm. That's one rev per second. You could watch it go round! The one I measured ran at ~380 rpm from the RCX and ~420 rpm from the 9 v battery pack with no load. JB (25 years ago, 21-Sep-00, to lugnet.robotics)

  Rotation sensor gearing.

Great! Now the information is coming together. Denis Cousineau's Lego motors web page says that the 'new' Technics motor runs at 60rpm - and the Dacta site says that the rotation sensor is good to 500rpm. So gearing the motor up by a factor of (say) (...) (25 years ago, 21-Sep-00, to lugnet.robotics)

  RCX ver 2 firmware

Ok, I give up. This question has probably been asked before, but ... Where do you go to download the new version 2.0 firmware for the RCX? JB (25 years ago, 21-Sep-00, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Advice on Rotation sensors and steering please.

Of course, for the back wheels you could join the two shafts in a differential and the difference of the two would appear in the rotation of the casing (don't forget some reverse gearing to make the sum zero for two motors going in the same (...) (25 years ago, 21-Sep-00, to lugnet.robotics)
