  RE: Lego Protocol Patent

(...) Good grief! Maybe I should get involved in patent law (or at least spec'ing for patent lawyers). Honestly, the basic protocol that is described has been implemented LOTS of times in small proprietary projects. In fact, the fire alarm system (...) (26 years ago, 3-Nov-99, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Connecting two RCX's

(...) Actually, the sensors run on 9V too. Why would you not want to use the IR port to get them to cooperate? The "message" system built into them makes this the IDEAL way to communicate, expecially since you won't be tying up a sensor input or a (...) (26 years ago, 3-Nov-99, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.nqc)

  Re: Scout secrets revealed

(...) Strictly speaking, not true. A large page with navigation along the top is much better for those with limited screen real estate than a large page in a frame with a navigation frame at the top. Without frames, as soon as the user scrolls down (...) (26 years ago, 3-Nov-99, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: It's Time AFOL Take Action!

I have only two significant gripes about TLG, and one of them occurs only sporadically: (1) The trend in macro-pieces (such as wall pieces, boat hulls, and columns) which replace with one brick what could (and should) be several smaller standard (...) (26 years ago, 3-Nov-99, to lugnet.robotics)

  Rack and Pinion Steering

Here's where I really miss not having a digital camera. I'm working on a wheel-based 'bot that has rack-and-pinion steering, and I've run into a snag. (I realize that dual-motor steering and a caster-type rear wheel makes more sense, but I wanted a (...) (26 years ago, 3-Nov-99, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Connecting two RCX's

Joost, You could try connecting a motor to one of the outputs of RCX A, attaching a rotation sensor to its axle and connect that to an input on RCX B. I can also think of different combinations like lamp/light sensor, motor/touch sensor. I'll keep (...) (26 years ago, 3-Nov-99, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

  Re: Lego Protocol Patent

(...) I agree with everything you've said, Ralph. My turn to say somthing about patents. I know the job of being a patent clerk must be amazingly difficult -- how can any person possibly know about enough prior art to tell the obvious from the (...) (26 years ago, 3-Nov-99, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) Go check out this link. Some of it has already been done for you: (URL) around this site and you'll find other interesting HC11 projects, probably several of which would be of use to you.   Re: Scout secrets revealed

Points taken. (...) Main reason for that (I think) is the bookmark/url problem, which indeed started this thread. But it is possible to use frames that *are* bookmarkable[1]. I don't use on my site because of some technical issues, but I would (...) (26 years ago, 3-Nov-99, to lugnet.robotics)

Scientific American Robot Special on PBS

I live in the Las Vegas metro area, and our PBS affiliate here runs Scientific American w/ Alan Alda on Tuesday nights here.   Using the Lego Rotation Sensor with the Handyboard

Hi, Has anyone had a luck wiring up the Lego Mindstorms rotation sensor (#9756) to the Handyboard's analog inputs? Any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks Tom Murphy (26 years ago, 3-Nov-99, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Microphone

Does anyone know how I can hook up a microphone to the hb? It doesn't matter if it notices different frequencies so long as it can tell me the volume of the sound. If anyone knows where I can buy the parts I need I would greatly appreciate it. (...) (26 years ago, 3-Nov-99, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  Re: Rack and Pinion Steering

(...) I think you should look at a design in which each steering wheel's pivot axis is NOT in the same plane as the steering wheel's axle. Specifically, each wheel's axle should be behind its pivot axis, where "behind" is referenced in terms of the (...) (26 years ago, 3-Nov-99, to lugnet.robotics)
