Look at www.robotbuilder.com . Go to lego projects and look at the forums. There is a message saying something about a IR Eyeball. It sounds pretty interesting, but his istructions are sort of complicated to understand. If someone could deipher the (...) (26 years ago, 7-Oct-99, to lugnet.robotics)

 | | More IR proximity detectors
|

We're trying to use the little radio shack IR transmitter and reciever units to build our own. We're not sure exactly how this will work, but before we get too far, is this a reasonable thing to do? I believe there is a problem with the theory used in the article. He talks about using the Radio Shack emitter/detectors to do some 180 deg Detection. He's talking about using multiple emitters and detectors as proximity detectors. (much like using (...) (26 years ago, 7-Oct-99, to lugnet.robotics)

The Keyspan adapters are still a bit of a grey area. I've had several reports of them working just fine, and one report of it not working at all. I'm still trying to isolate this problem (which affects NQC and presumably MacNQC). The tweak in MacNQC (...) (26 years ago, 7-Oct-99, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.nqc)

Forgive my ignorance with respect to robotics and the like but what would you do with a laser? Is it used for guiding the robot or can the RCX detect when the beam is broken? I don't assume it is used to zap dirty dishes from the dinner table. <g> (...) (26 years ago, 8-Oct-99, to lugnet.robotics)

Yeah. In can't think of anything that a laser could be used for. Unless you had reflective walls and could use it as a range finder. Sort of like an ultrasonic range finder, only with light. I wonder if the timing could be done fast enough. Andy (...) (26 years ago, 8-Oct-99, to lugnet.robotics)
