Naturally I felt obliged to give it a road-test, so today I took some
pictures of LEGO models, using the macro mode and fill-in flash. Quite
simply the photos are stunning!!

A picture says a thousand words, so just take a look for yourself:

(Qui-Gon and Maul locked in battle in the Tatooine desert)

(Close up of Sebulba's pod - check out the depth of field!)

(Close-up of my Naboo Fighter derivative)

Those do look great.  I would like to get the new Nikon Coolpix 950, which is
similar in price and features, I believe.

The pictures are taken at the default quality setting, but have been
exported from PSP with a JPG quality of 15 to keep the file size sensible,
at around 200k (the originals are about 400k)

The only problem seems to be battery life. I don't know if I'm doing
something wrong, or if the camera has a fault, but a set of alkaline AA
batteries lasts about 10 shots before the camera starts warning of low
battery power!

I recall seeing a test/review of the C-2000 and that Nikon, and I think they
did mention that the C-2000 seemed to use up batteries very quickly.

(...) Yeah, I've been looking into digital cameras recently (in fantasy-shopping mode, sadly), and the Coolpix 950 is my top choice. And in the lower price category, if you don't need zoom, the Coolpix 700 seems totally the best choice. (25 years ago, 19-Jul-99, to lugnet.publish)
