Can anyone give me some web site design advice? —Brad Hamilton
(I orignally posted part of this on Lugnet.general, but was directed here) Although I'm a programmer by trade, I actually blew off the whole web site thing until I really got the urge to share my LEGO creations. With a little learning, I've managed (...) (25 years ago, 3-Mar-00, to lugnet.publish)

Just a note: you have an incorrect link for the Christmas page. The link goes to a page on your hard drive. Alan (25 years ago, 6-Mar-00, to lugnet.publish)

Re: Correct link for previous message! —Brad Hamilton
Thanks Alan, Frontpage did that to me on a few of my links. I have no idea why. Anyhow, I'll go fix it (by manually typing the name of the page).      Hi Brad, (...) Me too... I just started mine two months ago: (URL)With a little learning, I've managed to put together my site (...)          Re: Can anyone give me some web site design advice? —Brad Hamilton
Thanks for the feedback. I've been enjoying your web site recently. It has nice organization and plenty of stories. When is "Lion's Cove" going to be complete? Nobody I've asked is hot on guest books. I suppose it doesn't hurt to leave it in. Shiri (...) (25 years ago, 3-Mar-00, to lugnet.publish)

(...) Thanks! When is "Lion's Cove" going to be complete? You'll see it when my first chapter comes up. I hope that'll be in less than two weeks, all depending on how much work I'll be assigned when the end of my third term gets nearer... (...) Nah, (...) (25 years ago, 3-Mar-00, to lugnet.publish)

(...) Depends. I often read building notes but less often storylines... (...) I prefer organization. A raw directory makes it a bit difficult to find stuff. Small (Kb-wise) thumbnails are nice too. (...) I've never signed a guestbook. --Bram Bram (...) (25 years ago, 3-Mar-00, to lugnet.publish)

Re: Can anyone give me some web site design advice? —Christopher Masi
(...) I usually go for images and if I like them I move on to the text. I'll read building details and short stories. I only read the short stories when they are what I think of as LEGO cartoons, pictures with two to three sentence subtitles per (...) (25 years ago, 6-Mar-00, to lugnet.publish)

Re: Can anyone give me some web site design advice? —Christopher Masi
Just started looking at your site, and I like what I have seen so far. I take it you built your site at 1024x whatever resolution? You are not the only one who posts big beautiful pictures, but it does make it difficult for those of us at 800x600 (...) (25 years ago, 6-Mar-00, to lugnet.publish)

Re: Can anyone give me some web site design advice? —Brad Hamilton
I had actually been thinking that myself. Actually, I run my screen at 1200x1000 but my typical web window ends up being about 1024x700. I have thought about how the large pictures are a little "too" big. I would prefer to post smaller ones and have (...) (25 years ago, 7-Mar-00, to lugnet.publish)

Re: Can anyone give me some web site design advice? —Christopher Masi
It would be really nice if browsers could scale images down to fit a the screens resolution; afterall, many picture viewing utilities do that automatically. Please do not make the pictures too small. I just want them to fill MY screen. To heck with (...) (25 years ago, 7-Mar-00, to lugnet.publish)

(...) fit. Browsers can fit images to the size of the window: <img src="myimage.gif" width=100%> This scales the image to fit the width of the browser window. I personally prefer to use thumbnails and when clicking on it the full (unscaled) picture (...) (25 years ago, 7-Mar-00, to lugnet.publish)

(...) Hmm...maybe I'll start using this tag. (...) Sorry, I meant that it would take longer to load nine 8K thumbnails and then load nine 70K pictures 1 by 1 than it would to load a page with just nine 70K pictures. (...) (25 years ago, 7-Mar-00, to lugnet.publish)

Re: Can anyone give me some web site design advice? —Dan Boger
(...) The one problem I have with this is that my screen is usually more that most pictures - in which case saying width=100% will _strech_ the picture, distorting it.       Woa, I just tried the width=100% thing. The aspect ratios change depending on the size of the page if I use the width=100% tag. Chris (...) (25 years ago, 7-Mar-00, to lugnet.publish)

Re: Can anyone give me some web site design advice? —Brad Hamilton
Thanks for all the advice Chris. I revamped my site with smaller pictures. Its MUCH better. Seriously though, why not come out of the dark ages and upgrade that 256 color video card? Being a software developer, I just HATE it when we have to make (...) (25 years ago, 8-Mar-00, to lugnet.publish)

Re: Can anyone give me some web site design advice? —Allan J. Smith
(...) Because I spend all my spare cash on LEGO I can't afford to upgrade my 486sx25 with a VGA 640 x 480 256 screen. I did have a SVGA screen but that blew up and I was given the VGA screen. I designed my web pictures to fit in a 600 x 480 screen (...) (25 years ago, 8-Mar-00, to lugnet.publish)
