(...) Well, no. Dismasting a ship was probably the easiest way - the opposing ship couldn't manuever to make an effective broadside while you can. You don't do that with grapeshot. For most countries' fleets/ships/captains the whole point of shooting at an opposing ship was to disable it, board it and force the crew (or what was left of them) to surrender. Yesterday I ran a small pirate game for a couple of my friends. It went pretty good. Each started with a class 2 ship. There were 3 large islands and half a dozen small islands. Second, the substance: Bowsprits varied in length historically, as indeed did the geometries of the bows to which they were attached. In part they were meant to (...) hello everyone, i have a question. how long are the bowsprints on your ships as compared to the length of your respective ship? is there any historical "formula" as to finding the length the bowsprint of a ship should be? i have many pics of ships, (...)
