From the strictest standpoint of sets... well, I'd go with the Guards --
*only* because I was too young to get my hands on the soldier sets when they
were out. Not a qualitative assesment by any means at all...

In practice, I like them both about equally. Nothing quite like a bunch on
redcoats forming line on a green baseplate, but they look so awkward on a
quarterdeck unless properly escorted by blue-coated Naval officers.

So for familliarity reasons, it's Red. But for all intents and purposes,
they're equal.
