Once upon a time a long time ago, I read in this discussion group that Lego
would not revive the pirate theme because there were no more fresh ideas to
centre pirate ships around.  Ships seem to be an incredibly popular
idea/theme.  Certainly there could be other variations.  How about Vikings?
or would that be insulting to the Danish designers?  Have they thought of
Nelson and his fleet.  The castle theme seems to get resurrected in a hundred
different forms, why not ships? I want ships :(

Don't we all, Corrine. It's too bad the the Armada subtheme didn't have more
legs. A 16-wide Blue and white ship would have given the Armada a little weight,
as would a nice coastal seaport, or a fort of some kind. Of the Armada sets that
did see the light of day, the Armada Flagship was OK but undergunned and needs
lots of work to bring it up to even Imperial Flagship standards.

My wish list for the rumored return of Pirates:

Basically "more of the same" as opposed to "let's try some new subtheme..."

1. The above-mentioned 16-wide, three-center-section Armada Galleon
2. A decent merchant ship (16-wide, single-center, or 12-wide double-center, all
in brown, oh please, please, please)
3. The cutter from Imperial Trading Post as a separate set.
4. A 16-wide Imperial Redcoat ship, to rival BSB or SES. (of course, you can
easily convert the Black Seas Barracuda (assuming you can find and/or afford
one) to Imperial use but the thread is "More Ships" after all.)
5. Bluecoat and Redcoat minifig packs (say like the new Battle Droid pack, two
troopers and an officer, although i would WISH for 4 troopers, a lieutenant, and
an admiral.)
6. An Armada fort/seaport
7. A 12-wide pirate ship, along the lines of Imperial Flagship (with a female
captain!)
8. A Mayan City of Gold for the Armada to plunder (I know, the exploitation of
the natives, certianly not PC...)

Ah, Pirates...

"Stephen A. Campbell" wrote a bunch of worthy stuff you can go read in his post. To which any sensible pirate head ought be replying 'Mmmm...mmm, Pirates' I particularly agree in respect of the brown hulls. Waaaayyyy more authentic. Richard Still (...)
