Not single but friends bring their kids over to play with my collection.

I’ve never had friends bring their kids over to “play” with my collection. They have brought them over to look though. Perhaps since I’ve long said “That when I have kids, they will have their own, seperate collections”, it was clear I didn’t want kids messing up my sorted bins.

I always said this as well--‘Kids get their sets, Papa gets his--they stay separate!’ ;)

So far, I’m not a papa (that I know of...)

I have a few rules the kids have to follow.

1)No taking apart anything that is already built. 2)If you are not sure were to put something away, leave it out. 3)Anything electronic (mindstorms, motors, trains ect) requires my presence at least to set up and explain.

Apart from that they have free reign. They usually make a huge mess but have a great time. As long as they don’t mess up what I already have sorted, putting away what they pulled out is easy.

I guess if all they wanted to do was play with the unsorted parts, I’d be pretty ok with that. Huh.

Me too. What happens mostly, though, is they’ll build something, like a truck, and drive around the train layout, and then, after they go, I notice so many things are not where they were before. Not that it really matters. I did have a pair of kids show up--I was dumb and stayed upstairs having a chat with the parents, and thse kids thought it’d be cool to actually rip up most of the track and rearrange things so there’d be trains falling off the edge and stuff. That took a bit to put back to normal

To further this discussion about being single and an AFOL, does your chosen hobby impact on your dating life? Are you concerned about prospective dates finding out that you ‘still play with LEGO’? Has a dating relationship ended due to your hobby? I’ve used the statement, “If a woman is not going to date me because of the vehicle I drive, then that’s a woman I wouldn’t want to date.” Much like LEGO--she doesn’t have to sit with me in the basement and build stuff, but if she doesn’t accept the idea that I like to create with LEGO, and makes an issue of it, well, eh, I’ve been single before :)

I picked up my lego hobby in while dating a girl, who I ended up marrying. And yes, my wife knows that I could have worse hobbies.
