I don’t have any clone parts (well, except for the ones I made myself!) so I
couldn’t have been thinking of other companies hermaphrodite parts..

Just for the sake of completeness, I’ll mention that to my knowledge Tyco
produced and sold the only LEGO-compatible single pin male:male connector. Tyco
also produced a 2x2 male:male connector plate that was thinner than a normal
plate, as well as a 2x2 female:female connector that was 1/2 brick height. Coko
has produced a plate-height 2x2 male:male connector. MegaBloks produces, IMO,
the best plate-height 2x2 male:male connector plate yet available.
