Sumo sounds like as good a place to start as any. After all, 10-line NQC
programs are my specialty. I'll even have about nine lines left over for
comments!
In addition to coming up with rules for the specific challenge, you might also
want to draft a few general ground rules that would be in effect for all
competitions. Issues that have come up in other matches are things like whether
it is acceptable to erase your opponent's firmware, or deliberately cause
dammage to the opponent's RCX.
Specific contests sometimes have rules about the maximum initial size of any
contender, ie: each robot must fit inside a box of a certain size. You should
also spell out whether the robot must be completely autonomous or whether human
intervention and/or remote control are allowed. (Usually not!)
As we progress with this, we can also think about some challenges that require
more computation or intelligence. Many problems that are initially posed as
robotics challenges can actually be solved using pure Technic solutions, with a
motor and a battery box.
My battery box can crush your RCX any day of the week!
- Chris.
