Now I remember why I did so good in Math when it came to geometry... Anyhow, I
looked over everything so far and said to myself.. I already knew train track
takes up space but, after working in the Automation switches and crossing as
well as #2 train loop. I came up with a layout then said, Hmmm what about a
stocking yard... I'm wondering what you think.. Its actually one of the
original designs I made for our layout however adjusted it to size to fit the
table.
Take notice how much space this now leaves for our buildings.... :(

I look at this and say its close to a nice balance as far as Train vs. Building
space (IF) we drop the roadplates and just go with (fake) roads.. That means
the buildings can be at (Any) Angle....

I have two other less Complex layouts I will post tonight.

I guess I'm not very "up" on train displays, the only Lego ones I've seen up
close were at BrickFest and BricksWest. What I notice about your layouts is
they all feature only one continuously circulating track as far as I can see.

I understand a lot of people like to build rolling stock, but I am sure that
there are multiple engine builders out there too who want their day at the
front.

Add to that the potential interest in displaying some train automation,
which to me means automated control of track sections so as to run more than
one train around the track while guarding against the inevitable state where
one catches another up and I see the need to design in more than one loop.

One loop would have straightforward access to "the yard" with manual or
electric control over the switches to allow someone at the controls to park
one train and get another out. The second loop would essentially just be
running itself with the simple safeguard that if it wasn't working right
that day, the power connections to the track sections could easily be
attached to a manual controller as the backup mode.

I don't know if I'm way off in left field here. I'm certainly working away
on providing the necessary "stuff" for loop two. Plus, of course, evolving
my little part of Lucnyville - the HiTechnic facility which will of course
be placed some distance from the center of town due to the strange and
unknown nature of what exactly the plant makes. (Wish I could add creepy
sound effects to a lugnet post, but you'll just have to imagine ...)

Easy enough to add a second loop to achieve what you're commenting on.  You're
right - I drew these up fron a single sided viewpoint, I think.  I've added a
couple more designs on Brickshelf - one is a separate disjointed loop and the
other is connected to the main line.

Thanks for the input, John - any others?  I'm sure we can kick this stuff
around to everyone's liking.  Personally, I just need to have room for
automated point motors and a small train station and tower.  All negotiable,
but I agree with the second loop feature for shows.

I started generating some layout samples that use 5 of the 30x60 tables.
