Anyway, I have a Brute Force line following robot that has seven light sensors, and
should be able to navigate the whole course at a pretty good speed, with the
exception of the zig-zag.  Of course, if I can identify the zig-zag, I can ignore
it, and go straight, catching the line on the other side.

So, the question is, how do I identify a zig-zag?  Any thoughts?

Steve

Steve,

Well you know how bad I am at programming and all, but my first thought on this
was something like this...

light sensor (LS)1 goes black
then LS! & LS@ go black
then LS1, LS2, and LS3 go black (depending on thickness and orientation of line
then LS1 return to white, LS2, LS3, and LS4 are black
as the line zags back the other way, the pattern would reverse.  I would think
something like this would work if the zig-zag isn't too big.

this might identify the first part of a zig-zag.  You'd probably have to expand
the idea further to use the other 4 light sensors.

I guess I have to qualify this idea with the following disclaimers...

1.  As stated above, I'm lousy at programming.
2.  I consider it a victory when I get a robot to follow a pretty simple line.
Doing it quickly is another matter entirely.
3.  I haven't seen the course before, so I don't know the specifics
4.  I'm really tired this morning and can barely think straight ;)

John
