    486-33 8Mb —Derek Raycraft
I got this 486 - 33Mhz with 8Mb RAM that taking up too much space and all I can think of using it for is a boat anchor and forgetting to put a rope on it. So if anyone can think of a use for it, or would like to have it, let me know. You have until (...) (21 years ago, 1-Sep-03, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

        Re: 486-33 8Mb —Orion Pobursky
(...) At the very least donate it to the local school district or some other charity. Sorry for barging in, -Orion (21 years ago, 1-Sep-03, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

        Re: 486-33 8Mb —Chris Magno
(...) that's a very noble thought... BUT (start rant) in the REAL cruel hard world, no one wants them. I've got 2 or 3 guts to pentium 166 and "under" and the best i can hope for is some one takes it from the trash pile come garbage day. (which (...)          Re: 486-33 8Mb —Derek Raycraft
(...) Please, for the cost of the out dated hardware I'd need to make this thing network ready I could buy something 10 times more powerful that was already network ready. You know I'm not even sure I can lift it that high, it's a really big (...) (21 years ago, 2-Sep-03, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

          Re: 486-33 8Mb —Calum Tsang
(...) Faster than you can say "Dumpster", I found a HP Pavilion Celeron 400 with 192MB and 5+8 GByte of hard disks. I'm running memtest86 and everything's kosher. The machine was sitting next to a dumpster near our building at the University. Is it (...) (21 years ago, 3-Sep-03, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

          Re: 486-33 8Mb —Derek Raycraft
(...) Was it full of concrete. :-) Derek (21 years ago, 3-Sep-03, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

          Re: 486-33 8Mb —Iain Hendry
(...) I *love* concrete. I love the smell of it when it gets wet. Iain (21 years ago, 3-Sep-03, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

          Re: 486-33 8Mb —Calum Tsang
(...) Stranegly enough, no. It was fully working. Like, even the CDRom drive was working. Calum (21 years ago, 3-Sep-03, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

         Re: 486-33 8Mb —Calum Tsang
(...) Yup. It's tough to get rid of machines. Several charities refuse to take anything less than P54C/P55C class (ie, second generation Pentium 90-233) and about the only way you'll get someone to take a 486 is if you go and set it up at their (...)         Re: 486-33 8Mb —Derek Raycraft
(...) Sorry man, but if I can't find any use for it, no school or charity is going to. It will cost them more money to dispose of it then it will do any good. I mean this this was state of the art more then 10 years ago. I think I actually got Win95 (...) (21 years ago, 2-Sep-03, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

        Re: 486-33 8Mb —Calum Tsang
(...) Bored. Bored! Linux Router Project (LRP) will run on it just fine. And a 486 will route packets using NAT just fine. I used to run a 486/66 with Nevod NAT1000 and Windows95 with like 5% CPU overhead and near complete saturation on my cable (...) (21 years ago, 2-Sep-03, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

        Re: 486-33 8Mb —Larry Pieniazek
(...) You say that like it's a BAD THING. Me, I get a kick out of reading Calum's stuff, it's very witty in a dry way. And you can always use another recipe for LMP, trust me. (21 years ago, 2-Sep-03, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

        Re: 486-33 8Mb —Iain Hendry
(...) It was honestly and truly not my intent at all to come off that way. I think Calum knows (heck, we were talking about it while *on* Drop of Fear at the CNE) that I apprecieate his method of presentation! Iain (21 years ago, 2-Sep-03, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

        Re: 486-33 8Mb —Larry Pieniazek
(...) I didn't think it was your intent, honest! I just like saying "You say that like it's a BAD THING." and I don't get nearly enough chances to say it so if it seems even *remotely* applicable... out it comes. I have to say I learned a lot about (...) (21 years ago, 2-Sep-03, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

        Re: 486-33 8Mb —Iain Hendry
(...) Agreed with the latter but it doesn't include me. I don't know any complex commands, it's all just notepaded and using the basic tags. I disguise that fact by eliminating capitals and fooling people into thinking it's because it's "chic". So I (...) (21 years ago, 2-Sep-03, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)
