a) I'm really glad to hear you're interested. I think it's a good project
to get started onto Mindstorms with and not too hard to get into it.
b) I'm not going to put anything up in terms of a formal date, I think we
may do a test session perhaps at Chris' or my office at the University
first. A couple people (like me, Mario, Chris, Rob, Iain etc) who might be
easily available to try it out. Spend an afternoon fooling around with the
software, hardware, player designs etc to see if the configuration works
(ie, IR realtime control with BBRC)
c) A "player" robot (not to be confused a "Playa"* robot, more on this
later) in most basic configuration is a robot with AB steering and C as a
"kicker". It incorporates a single RCX in a 7x7x7" cube. That's ~17.78
cm^3 for those metric oriented. The player code watches for IR message
numbers, and does things with them. For example, if you get code 1, start
Motor A. If you get code 2, stop Motor A. This code could be written using
almost anything including NQC, Botcode, SDK/RCX scripting, probably even the
Happy Lego Software.
d) We'll need to assign message ranges for players/teams. I imagine we'll
have two or three bots per team.
