Well, it's the kind of polish we'd like to achieve :)

competition. Having some room for error is a very good thing. Calum, your
prototype is looking good. I can't quite see how the stack is going to be
deployed though. Will you have to tilt forward and spread the wheels, and move
the yellow thingy out of the way all at once? Will you leave the tower behind,
or let it out front? Whatever you do, it should be good. I have come to the

It will split open at the front (the yellow thingy was temporary) as
detailed in the page:

I put a new picture of how I think it should open, but this is a mockup.
The first iteration can stack up to four but with a wraparound frame.  This
new setup is just to see if I can build an articulated frame that can
"split", I still haven't figured out how to build it a) strong and b) drivable.

That's actually the hardest part, is thinking of a way to actuate the split.
I'm thinking of having an arrow shape that pushes slanted pieces from each
side, driven down by a rack piece, sort of like a plunger that splits the
sides apart.

realization that building mechanisms out of lego takes a lot of time and
creativity, and more time. Have fun...

Time is the key.  It's hard to get into building after a long day... :)
Thanks for the words of encouragement!

I just had some more thoughts on your mechanism... Using curved guides up front should elimenate most of your block alignment problems. Use a couple of those big sloped znap pieces like Chris did. This way, you would only have to drive the grabber (...) (24 years ago, 2-Feb-01, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)
